Hallo zusammen,
gestern war bei uns der 1. Maifeiertag, also hatten wir frei.

Hello everyone,
Yesterday was May Day for us, so we had the day off. As the weather was still very nice, we went straight to the Olderdissen pet park in Bielefeld in the morning.
The special thing about this animal park is that it can be visited without paying an entrance fee. The park lives off sponsors and donations. So really every family can afford to spend a nice day there.
On Sundays and public holidays, of course, quite a few people have the same idea, and so the car park was already almost completely full at 10:45 am.
But we were lucky and were able to find a place.

The zoo is a 16-hectare site in the middle of the Teutoburg Forest. The animals living there are, or were once, all native to the area and are housed in very large, species-appropriate enclosures.

Among the wild boars, there were three freshlings to marvel at. Playful and squealing loudly, they ran through the enclosure and it was fun to watch them.

Beavers are at work here. Unfortunately, you hardly ever see them... but you do see their constructions :)

Around noon, we were sitting in the beer garden eating French fries when suddenly, in quick succession, two ear-numbing bangs sounded like explosions. The buzz of voices around us was immediately extinguished and everyone stopped. Countless birds rose from the forest and flew away. It was a frightening moment.
Everyone was puzzled as to where these explosive sounds were coming from. Since we heard jets in the air shortly afterwards, we suspected that it had something to do with them.
And so it was. Two Eurofighters of the German Air Force were on a mission and broke their sound barrier. Very reassuring that it was nothing else.
As we all know, peace cannot be taken for granted and I am glad for every day that we can live in peace.
So, in the end, this day came to a thoughtful end....

The sound of explosions was pretty scary, but I'm glad it was just some plane exercise. Thank you for taking us along on this pet park trip. It looks fascinating. The best part is the free entrance, I would agree. Lovely that it is well maintained though. Happy midweek and a fantastic new month ahead!

Thank you @iamraincrystal
I also wish you a beautiful month of may. In our country it is called the "Wonnemonat" :) I don't know how it is translated, but it means something like the "cheerful month".

May is indeed a marvelous and magnificent month, especially in colder areas of the northern hemisphere! So much life is waking up once again, and flourishing everywhere! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Great overview of the zoo. I think it was the pops of a jet stream, or rather the moment of overcoming supersonic speed.

Yes, indeed, that was exactly it! It was explained a little later all over the media. But if you don't know, at that moment you really think there was an explosion somewhere.

I know very well what an explosion is and, now, I won’t confuse it with the passage of an airplane through the sound barrier :)
At a distance of about 3 kilometers in a straight line, cruise missiles exploded, we survived about a dozen explosions of missiles that flew into our city from Russian creatures, this detonation cannot be confused with anything, and in front of the windows of our house the air defense shot down a rocket, it was even worse, I saw a flying rocket and explosion in the air. I hope you never know the difference between such explosions :)

Yes, you're right, you can't imagine such a real explosion if you haven't experienced it yourself. It must be simply terrible, and you will probably never be able to forget it.
No one should have to experience something like that. I hope that this madness will soon come to an end! I wish you all the best!

Must be scary because whatever is happening around us, it always frightening. The park/zoo seems a nice place to spend family time. Also, the entrance is free so it's more convenient...

What a beautiful park @karizma! My hope and desire is that all the animals there could live wild in their natural environment, but without that, parks like this are very important. Thank you for sharing your visit! Sonic booms from jet fighters can indeed be startling. I'm grateful that it was ink that! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
