I have to start with a hope that I haven't offended anyone from t'other side o't Pennines. Because "bassin'" is a term I picked up when I was working in Manchester. So I loosely translate it to our Yorkshire "champion". Though the nuances are probably not perfect.

I also know that anyone outside the North of England has no clue what I'm saying. And probably many people nearby.

Anyway, I heard the term around the North West but never the North East. Perhaps it's meaning will be clear if I tell of the first time I heard it.

In a Manchester pub, surely one of Joseph Holts, a rather pert derriere sashayed passed the bar as my mate and I drooled into our pints. "What a bassin' breezer" Steve exclaimed.

Let's move on!

Veggie Breakfast

After dropping off the grandsons at school, I fancied walking home. But after a few minutes, rain fell ferociously. Or I was hungry? Actually, both, so I called in the local café.

When I was a lad, this was the sales area of the village bakery. And I worked there for pocket money. But that's for another time. Because today is about the food.

It's very good!

I'm eating less meat these days. So the veggie option is perfect for me. Especially as it has no fake sausage or other vegan stuff pretending to be meat.

Where's My Lollipop?

I hope that idea of rewarding clean plates with lollipops for kids has died out. But if not, I deserve one.
