The fixtures in this 5th round of the FA Cup are packed, and juicy and promise to have some element of intensity. I'm all about Liverpool, but for tonight's fixtures, I also had my eyes on two other games;

  • Chelsea 3 - 2 Leeds United

  • Nottingham Forest 0 - 1 Man United

That first goal by Leeds is a joke on Chelsea. It came in the 8th minute and a certain Joseph finished that clinically. Chelsea replied almost immediately and followed that up with an additional goal which placed them ahead before HT. Leeds were not having any of that. They scored an equalizer at the 59th minute of the game and the rest of the game was a tough battle between both sides until Gallagher stepped up in the 90th minute to score the winning goal for Chelsea.

As for Man United, their game against Nottingham Forest didn't have a goal galore. It also didn't have a lot of intensity. They both went toe for toe but Manchester United ended up getting the win in the 89th minute of the game. To be fair, I'm sure Man United fans will take that performance all day, any day.

Liverpool 3 - 0 Southampton

A 3 - 0 win against Southampton in the style we did it and with the squad we have is something I genuinely didn't expect in a game of this caliber. I know the lads did it against Chelsea a few days ago, but the lineup for today's game was an even weaker one. I didn't know what to expect, but I'm very glad they got the job done and they did it in style.

The boys had a very shaky start to this game. They had the technique and positioning, but it's very easy to see that they were getting bodied by Southampton players. The lads couldn't win a lot of 50/50 ball-winning attempts and it was tough to watch them lose the ball to Southampton in those moments.

Big Ups to Elliot. I'm one of those who haven't been very impressed with his performance this season, but he showed what he's capable of doing in today's game. It's so good to see that. He is still a very young lad, but he's one of the senior players we have in today's lineup. I won't take anything away from his performance. The lad deserves some flowers. The same goes for Kelleher. Wow! Kelleher saved our ass in several moments tonight.

After the half-hour mark, we started to get back in the game. We were still getting bodied, but when we didn't have the ball, Southampton lacked an idea of what to do with it. Koumas put Liverpool in front before halftime with a sumptuous finish in the 44th minute. That's a perfect way to end the first half.

Second Half...

This is where shit hits the ceiling. We made a couple of changes and the young lads started to hit hard with their control of the game. Danns scored two goals in the second half of the game to seal the win for Liverpool. And, this isn't a fluke at all. The win is no fluke. Liverpool had Southampton in the second half of the game. We completely outplayed them. The boys must be proud of their performance tonight.

Cody Gakpo though.... The lad isn't doing himself any good with the chances he's bottling. It's one thing to miss a chance. But it's another thing to completely balloon the ball off target. Well, we got the win for tonight. Big Ups to the lads.
