World Cup: A comical turn of event in group G and H

I've had wonderful moments watching some underdogs win in this World Cup and today's games were not lacking in any way. It was a joy to watch and the teams that finally made it to the next round of the tournament have so far proved to be deserving of their qualification spot.

What a day! This World Cup is making me jump around like a kid on sugar and I'm loving this feeling. I completely love it and I'm all set to see what comes next.

Well, before we talk about what comes next, this post is all about the last group stage games that were played in group G and H. We will also get to see the teams that made it to the next round from these groups and the ones that will be heading back home.

Brazil and Switzerland progress to the next round of the tournament, but the headlines are all about Cameroon. They successfully got one over Brazil and are now the only African team to beat Brazil in a World Cup tournament.

You need to see the reaction of folks to this result, especially that of people who do not have any vested interest in the match. The thing about football is that we admit that some teams go into a game with all odds in their favour, yet we look forward to seeing some unexpected sh*t from the underdogs.

The underdogs in this case were Cameroon and they did so well to get a hard-fought win against the samba lads of Brazil.

What's comical about this result is that the win doesn't give them any chance of qualifying for the next round of the competition, yet they will go home with pride for putting up a fairly decent performance in this competition.

This group is one of the groups that had so many loose ends until the final minute of the final game of the group. This is such a thrilling group and it was really interesting to see how things stood by the end of the games.

  • Ghana 0 - 2 Uruguay

  • South Korea 2 - 1 Portugal

During the buildup to these games, the fixture between Ghana and Uruguay made headlines because of the unfinished business that Ghanaians have with Uruguay.

If you have been a fan of international football for a fair number of years, you will surely remember the brilliance that Suarez displayed in their game against Ghana in the 2010 World Cup. Yeah, that's exactly the bone of contention. haha.

It's interesting to see that Ghana was gifted a penalty in the 21st minute of their game today, but Andre Ayew bottled it. Ouch! That must have been a heartbreaking moment for the Ghanaians. That miss was the spirit-dampening moment in the game.

Look at the stats;

After missing that penalty, Uruguay used the next 10 minutes to score two goals against Ghana. That's pretty much how the game ended up.

The comical thing about this group is that Ghana wanted revenge which they couldn't get, but they were still glad to know that South Korea won against Portugal since that meant that Uruguay will also be on their way home. Haha. Box office at its best.

Special Congratulations to Heung-Min-Son and South Korea. They fought hard to get through and they deserve to be in the next round of the competition.

This World Cup is a joy to watch and I'm already filled with a surge of anticipation to see how the round of 16 will play out. Hehe. Interesting!

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma

I feel like the Cameroons were very unlucky in this world cup but it was a great performance against a very big team.

It's so unfortunate for the Ghanians, they failed to exert their revenge but you needed to see the looks on Suarez's face when he realised his team may not make it past the group stages.😂

This world cup has been quite thrilling, hoping for more drama.

Cameroon can go big with pride. This world cup was not entirely bad for them and I believe the win against Brazil will always be there as a historical moment for them. Hehe.

As for Ghana, I saw some videos of the fans and I believe they are okay with the result as far as it means that Luis Suarez will also be out of the world Cup. Haha. That's quite comical.

The drama in this world Cup is very interesting. Since the likes of Japan are already in the round of 16, I believe we will be seeing more drama. Haha

I'm a little bit confused, not sure who's more likely to win it how about you ?

That's a tough ask. Haha. Brazil still look decent. Same with Spain considering that they both played their 3rd game in group stage with their second XI.

But, from what we are seeing in this tournament, we may get a shocking flip of the table from an underdog. Haha

Totally agree with this. It reminds me of Croatia in 2018

It's indeed World Cup for a reason with great upset displays and turn over of event.

It was sad seeing Ghana exit after a brilliant start of events.. they were disorganized with the PK loss but then it's football and these things happen

This World Cup is truly sensational. The results are thrilling and the games we will see from this round onwards will get even more interesting since there won't be room for second chance. Haha.

It's now a lose and go home affair.

Even though Cameroon did not make it to the knockout stage, their victory over Brazil was the best for them as they head out of the world cup, and I love the way Abubakar showed his jersey to the fans.

With all the shouting the Ghanaians did, they still could not beat Uruguay and Ayew should be slapped on the head for playing the worst penalty I have ever seen in the world cup, but the Ghanaian's joy when they found out Uruguay was going home they were at peace and even cheered for Korea 😂😂😂

Hahah... Aboubakar had so much fun in this world cup. Did you see his reaction when he got a red card after that celebration? Even the ref gave him a nice handshake before booking him 😂😂. Lolzzz.

As it stands, Argentina will be facing Netherlands. Wow. That's going to be one heck of a thriller. Haha.
