My Actifit Report Card: May 28 2023 - Memorial Day, Summer and The Beach Boys
Today is Memorial Day where we remember military people who died fighting for our country so people like me have the freedom to complain about the weather on social media. I'm not making light of their sacrifice or their family's loss, I'm mocking myself for being sad about being rained out of water volleyball which is trivial in comparison. Today's the day to think about the things we think about. I need to shift my thinking from what I don't have to what I DO have, and why I have it.
This is a US holiday and we like to welcome Summer this weekend with get togethers involving food and music. I can't share food via the interwebs but here's some music. And what better Summer music then that of The Beach Boys!
Surfin' USA
First let's set the fun and frantic mood with their classic hit Surfin' USA. This upbeat guitar driven rocker celebrates the Summer with tales of a surf tour throughout the USA. It's clearly taken from Chuck Berry's hit Sweet Little 16, and The Beach Boys gave him writing credit as you can see in the description. Jump around, do some air surfing, bump up your actifit number!
Miss America
Next is a doo wop love song called Little Girl (You're My Miss America). This fun 50s sounding song is a cover originally done by Dante and His Friends and appears on The Beach Boys first album. It's got America in the title just like our first song had USA in the title, in honor of Memorial day in the USA.
Good Vibrations
Let's finish with maybe The Beach Boys most popular song Good Vibrations. No USA reference but it does have either a Theremin or Synthesizer makings sounds like those in Hey Joe by Violet Wing which I presented to you a few days ago. Dig this!
MY ACTIVITY
was a long walk in the rain. It wasn't pouring but it also wasn't drizzling. Just a regular steady rain with some wind to blow it under my ballcap and hoodie, soaking my face as well as my outfit. I wish I was playing water volleyball instead. But yeah, gotta be thankful for the good things, and I have quite a lot.
