My Actifit Report Card: May 8 2025 - Wishing the new Pope well

I had a busy day and just had a chance to hear the news of the election of the new Pope. I wish him well. It is quite an honor and responsibility to lead over a billion Catholic people.

YouTube showed me a 1 minute video from The National Desk channel which seems to be run by Sinclair News, reporting on the new Pope. It is from less than an hour ago and has 3.4K views.

Half way in, there is a list of 4 things the Pope has set as priorities. Here is a screenshot.

The video gives no context, so without that as a guide, I'll just say whatever I can think of about each point!

Walk united, seeking peace and justice

I don't think over a billion people will ever be that united in their walk and that is probably a good thing. We are all individuals and will have different thoughts about the walk of our own life.

Peace, YES! We should all be seeking peace. But often you have to go through some trying mental and spiritual journeys to arrive there. Don't be quick to take a shortcut. Do the work to get to a lasting peace.

Justice, hmmm. One group's justice is another group's tribulation. One side thinks they are doing what is just and is the proper reaction to what was done to them, while the other side sees it as an attack. So justice is hard to define.

Be missionaries to the world

No, I do not agree, in the strict sense of sending missionaries out to knock on your door and try to convert you to their religion. What makes you so sure that out of the thousands of religions that are out there, that the one you are trying to get me to join is the One True Religion that I should join and actively follow their rules and ordinances?

Now if you want to talk about setting a good example of civilized behavior where you are considerate of others and love them even if they have a different religion or political ideology, then yes! Let's all do that!

Show charity, presence

Agreed! Help out others as much as you can. Be there for as many people as you can. Listen to them, see them, validate their concerns. You do not have to agree with others all the time. But give them a bit of your time and the world will be a better place.

Be in dialogue with love

Yes, talk to other people, listen to other people. That is dialogue - you talk a little bit then you listen a little bit as they talk. Do it with love. Don't do it waiting for them to say something you can jump all over them about. There is a time to attempt to persuade others and a time just to dialogue and clarify your understanding of what they are telling you, as they listen and do the same with your words.

My Activity

for this Thursday was mainly time with family and friends who came to my house today for a special birthday. But at night, after hanging around indoors all day, I was happy to get out and walk, even though it was raining a bit. I wore the hoodie with the hood up, which actually made me a bit too warm as my walk progressed. But I kept walking anyway, and ended up with a very respectable 10K actifit number.
