Rush Right on AI and Theocracy - Temples of Syrinx
50 years ago, Canadian Rockers Rush released their album 2112. The songs told the story of a guy who found a guitar in some world where some sort of theocracy ruled. He learns to make music with it and then goes to the Temples of Syrinx to tell the ruling priests about the guitar and what he was able to do with it. They're not interested, telling the guy that they have taken care of everything - the songs you sing and the pictures that give pleasure to your eye. The priests mention their great computers that fill their hallowed halls. Basically they told the guy to get lost as they're too busy doing more important things.
I'm seeing parallels to today. Computers run their algorithms and tell us what to like and how to live. We may not even need high priests to run things as AI and Robots can do whatever people can do. If not now, then maybe soon.
This is the 2 minute segment of Side A of 2112 which is the fierce heavy rocking tale of the Temples of Syrinx. Rush was a band similar to Led Zeppelin in that there was just one guitar and a bass and drums. Geddy Lee was on guitar and vocals. He had that high octave high octane delivery similar to Robert Plant of Led Zep. It is rather harsh of some people so this is not going to be a pleasant listen for everyone. But the metal people might already know it or might like it if it is their first listen. It's got a decent tempo and great guitar chords that change fast. Listen, if that's your thing. You could also mute it and just read the lyrics, as this is a Lyric Video from the official Rush YouTube channel.

If you want the full context, here is the 22 minute Side A from 2112 where we get the Overture where the guy finds the guitar, then Temples of Syrinx, then the presentation of the guitar to the Priests and their reaction.
Most of this is abstract and unstructured, and a lot less intense than the Temples of Syrinx part. But still has its cool moments!

My Activity
I finally got out for a walk! It got up into the 40s so the white stuff and the underlying ice was melting, although still plenty left in spots. I was able to walk in the streets and on sidewalks, no slippage occurring.
I got over 7K which is okay. Been a few days since I did any weights of pushups or chinups. I'll get back to that maybe tomorrow.
Have a Nice Day!
