If we sinners did not have the refuge of prostration, our hearts would have been torn. Thus we run barefoot towards the Lord because we know that He is the Most Merciful. Think about it, if the Lord had not assured us of His love, compassion and mercy, where would we have gone? And yes... yes yes... I remember, I remember. If He had not promised us that we would meet again, how would we have buried our loved ones? How would we have maintained the flow of our breaths like a knife piercing our chests during the nights of separation? How would we have surrendered our faces like verses to the dust.
