Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Since Davao is reverted to less strict Alert level 2, my former gym decided to open. Finally, after 2 years! I can go back to training. I missed contact sports, to be honest.

This was my playground before the pandemic. This is where I used to go almost every day pre-pandemic. I started my Muay Thai journey here in 2018, then I switched to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2019 up until now.

They opened on Feb. 21, 2022. I just signed up yesterday, and it was the first day of NO-GI class. To be honest, I don't really like NO-GI (no kimono) class. It's not that I hate it, I guess I'm just not into it. LOL BUT, I still tried though, I have to.

So yeah, we had our 1st day of NO-GI class. It was so tiring, but we totally had fun. We really missed training jiu-jitsu. Also, there are more girls this year than before, which is nice. Our lesson yesterday were basic guard passes, and Darce choke. I wish I could take a photo of our lesson yesterday, but I can't cause I'm shy with our sensei lol.

So we're back to basics. We had some drills and sparring after the drills. We usually start our class from 7 pm to 10 pm.

This is the 1st floor. This is where they do the boxing, circuit training, and a little bit of lifting weights.

And this is the 2nd floor. This is where we do Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. The mats were used to be white, but they changed it to black, which is cool.

These are my Jiu-Jitsu mates. The third guy from the right is our sensei. He's a brown belt in Philippine National Jiu-Jitsu Athletes, and he's really young. I think he's 24.

More choking and bruises to come. LOL

Having a good teacher is the key to a fruitful martial arts practice. Your sensei looks like a bad-ass/nice-guy type of dude. It is always different if your coach was or currently is a national or international level player. Mas astig pa kung podium finisher siya. Congrats!

Ganyan din ako before, namimili ng teacher. Pero lucky kasi ako, ang first sensei ko nung bata pa ako ay magaling din at very humble. Ganun siguro ang mga bad ass, di na kailangan mag flex. haha. :)

Awesome post! Super glad you are able to get back to what you love! I know how much you have been missing it. Looks like everybody had a great time kicking some ass... or wrestling it to submission anyways! hahaha

Hahah the GI for sure makes you feel more powerful, and I guess some "moves" or whatever you call it includes pulling/holding the GI to perform it, no? Also there's a black dog there who dat!!!

Also I still have my pink boxing gloves there inside the cabinet from 2018! Hahaha I wonder if it's still there 🤣
