Amo y señor del tenis. ¡Novak... El trono es tuyo! [Esp - Eng]

Una de las características naturales de los grandes atletas del mundo, es cumplir las expectativas que generan en el público; recuerdo que hace algunas semanas titulé una publicación "Crónica de un campeón anunciado", en referencia al título Nº 92 de Novak Djokovic en el ATP-250 de Adelaida, en el que literalmente, arrasó con todos los rivales que enfrentó, incluidos Denis Shapovalov, Daniil Mevdeved y Sebastian Korda (en la final). De mi parte lo vi como el preludio del espectáculo serbio en esta gira australiana y así ha sido.

One of the natural characteristics of the world's great athletes is to meet the expectations they generate in the public; I remember that a few weeks ago I titled a post "Chronicle of an Announced Champion", in reference to Novak Djokovic's 92nd ATP-250 title in Adelaide, in which he literally swept away all the opponents he faced, including Denis Shapovalov, Daniil Mevdeved and Sebastian Korda (in the final). Para cuestiones comparativas, Novak perdió solo un set en sus 5 partidos en Adelaida; mientras que en Melbourne Park sucedió igual, dado que Djokovic cedió la misma cantidad de sets, aunque esto sucedió en su debut ante el francés Couacaud, quien accedió al torneo por medio de la clasificación y dio esta gran sorpresa. Del resto fue el show al cual estamos acostumbrados, viendo desfilar a tenistas que exhiben diversas habilidades y estilos de juego, pero que al momento de enfrentar al gran campeón serbio, sucumben a sus impresionantes habilidades.

For comparative purposes, Novak dropped just one set in his 5 matches in Adelaide; while in Melbourne Park the same thing happened, since Djokovic gave up the same number of sets, although this happened in his debut against the Frenchman Couacaud, who entered the tournament through qualifying and gave this great surprise. From the rest it was the show to which we are accustomed, seeing tennis players who display various skills and styles of play, but when facing the great Serbian champion, they succumb to his impressive skills.

Fueron 6 partidos en los que Nole demostró por qué es el mejor en las pistas rápidas, desde hace muchos años y de la actualidad. Para quienes esperábamos otro resultado o un poco más de competitividad, podríamos vernos en el dilema de que pareció tan fácil que rayó en lo aburrido, pero debo ser sincero y reconocer la inagotable capacidad de Djokovic, para controlar el juego de tenis a su antojo. Pareciera un tipo sin emociones que alteren su pulso, su muñequeo al ejecutar el revés no deja de hacerme pensar ¿Cómo puede sostenerlo con tanta velocidad por tanto tiempo?

There were 6 games in which Nole showed why he is the best on hard courts, for many years and today. For those of us who expected another result or a little more competitiveness, we could find ourselves in the dilemma that it seemed so easy that it bordered on boring, but I must be honest and recognize Djokovic's inexhaustible ability to control the game of tennis at will. Durante estas dos maravillosas de tenis, vi con agrado el avance de jugadores de los cuales no se esperaba tanto, tales como Tommy Paul, Karen Kachanov, Jiri Lehecka y el jovencito Ben Shelton; así como los 5 partidos de Sebastian Korda, en los que superó a Medvedev y Hurkacz. Sabía que Korda tendría una gran actuación pero lamento que haya abandonado por lesionarse su muñeca derecha. Espero se recupere pronto y pueda mostrarnos su avance técnico esta temporada. De parte del griego Stefanos Tsitsipás, le vi muy dominante en su recorrido hacia la final.

During these two wonderful tennis games, I was pleased to see the advancement of players who weren't expected so much, such as Tommy Paul, Karen Kachanov, Jiri Lehecka and the youngster Ben Shelton; as well as Sebastian Korda's 5 games, in which he beat Medvedev and Hurkacz. I knew that Korda would have a great performance but I am sorry that he withdrew due to injuring his right wrist. I hope he recovers soon and can show us his technical progress this season. Tsitsipás podo frenar a un poco convincente Jannik Sinner y a los sorpresivos Lehecka y Kachanov; he visto anteriormente esta versión del ateniense, en la que desarrolla un alto nivel, pero que en la final no le alcanza ante los jugadores top. Sin embargo, no puedo ser injusto con Steff porque contra el rival de rivales, muy pocos pueden plantearle batalla. El fuerte servicio y la aceleración con su forehand, fueron nuevamente las armas del heleno, que me deja pendiente otra vez, su enfoque mental durante los momentos difíciles; esto no es fácil para nadie excepto para Novak jajaja.

Respecto a lo que vi en la pista desde esta madrugada, tuve ir digiriendo el "Deja vu" de un Novak que parece no pensar en nada, solo dedicándose a avanzar en cada punto, en construir de manera visiblemente tan sencilla, algo que obviamente no lo es para el resto de los atletas del deporte blanco. Desde el planteamiento de estrategias al inicio del primer set, vi una especie de juego entre el gato y el ratón, con un Djokovic convertido en el más rápido y elástico de los felinos. Asumiendo como de costumbre, la iniciativa del juego ofensivo.

Es entonces donde me pongo a pensar, ¿Cómo es que Stefanos no se da cuenta de que lo están encerrando en un laberinto sin salida? Y es que Novak hace muy bien de atacante feroz disfrazado de cordero ja,ja,ja. La manera más difícil de contrarrestar a un atacante, es no darse cuenta de que te está atacando constantemente y en todas direcciones; si miramos con atención, nos damos cuenta de que cada golpe de Novak se dirige a una dirección diferente, pocas veces repite el tiro y se atreve con toda confianza, a repartir drives y backhands cual estuviese en una práctica de rutina.

De hecho, el break al 4to game pareció inadvertido para un Tsitsipás que no planteó contraataque alguno; por eso los 36 minutos del primer set fueron un parpadeo, en el que el 6-3 pareció dibujarse de manera automática. Stefanos apareció por fin en la segunda manga, por fin iniciaba el partido que muchos quería ver, de un griego demostrando que solo 1 peldaño los separaba del ranking; mejoró mucho en su primer servicio y se atrevió a atacar las líneas en cruzado. En el 4to y 5to game se avivó la batalla y fueron para mí, los mejores momentos del griego.

No obstante, un buen momento en el partido no lo es del todo, sino se materializan las remontadas. Tsitsipás tuvo el set point desde el resto y no supo aprovecharlo; fueron instantes en que Novak parecía ansioso y muy pocas veces sucede esto con el balcánico. Verle fallar tiros en la red y perder el ritmo momentáneamente, son oportunidades que nadie debe desaprovechar contra el más imbatible de los rivales. Pero Steff no pudo concretar, jugó pelotas muy liftadas y no atacó con su drive acelerado que tan buenos puntos le dio en la semana. En cambio Nole si supo definir en la primera oportunidad y he allí la diferencia abismal entre ambos.

El tie break por 7-6(4) se demoró 70 minutos y mientras Tsitsipás se notaba algo nervioso, el serbio respiraba con la tranquilidad de estar 2 sets arriba y a sólo un paso de su objetivo. Desafortunadamente, no vi cambios notables en la tercera vuelta; un griego que no lograba ejecutar su smash con la potencia acostumbrada (eso siempre levanta el ánimo y da sensación de seguridad). Parecía solo cuestión de tiempo, porque Tsitsipás solo jugaba a pasar la pelota para sobrevivir. Eso nos llevó a otro tie break, en el que Djokovic finalmente se consagra como el gran campeón de Australia.

Son 10 trofeos en suelo aussie, para llegar a 22 "Grandes" y supera en títulos a Rafael Nadal (con 93). Novak obtiene su redención un año después de habérsele negado el derecho a jugar y vuelve a demostrar que es imbatible en esta pista. A sus 35 años regresa al trono que por más tiempo ha ocupado, relevando a Carlitos Alcaraz como número 1 del mundo. El deporte se rinde a los pies del jugador más dominante del momento, en una temporada que apenas comienza; sus pies ligeros le permiten posicionarse y ejecutar sus tiros con facilidad, como si los años no hubieran pasado para el gran campeón serbio. ¡El trono del tenis es suyo!
