[ENG - ESP] Casper Ruud's Year of Consolidation. // El Año para la Consolidación de Casper Ruud.

The Year of Consolidation for Casper Ruud.

Hello dear friends, lovers of the sports community and @sportstalksocial; during the reactivation of the tennis calendar of this 2021, one of the tennis players who has come from less to much more, is the Norwegian Casper Ruud, a 22 year old who has developed the factors that make up a great athlete, such as character, control and adaptation to the changes around him. This is how the first racket of Norwegian tennis has remained firmly in the top 30 since the end of last year and has managed to climb positions steadily. Bearing in mind that it is not easy to stay on the tumultuous ATP ranking floor.

I have followed some results of this young man born in Oslo, son of former professional tennis player Christian, who is also his coach, after separating from the Spanish coach Pedro Rico, with whom he was for about two years; so he passed to the total management by his father and what greater pride for one as a parent, when your child follows your steps and becomes a professional, to surpass the achievements you have reached, that is a great privilege. Christian got the 39th best ranking of his career, a step that Casper managed to reach and surpass at the age of 20 (Barbaro).

With Casper having trained in Rico's Spanish style, the family made a big decision to attend training at Rafael Nadal's academy, given that the young talent had reached the top of the junior category (No. 1), that is, the Iberian tennis method and culture had paid off. This, in the words of the young Casper, was a dream come true, in view of his admiration for the legendary Spanish tennis warrior (his idol). Ruud was up to the task, his tennis level was in total increase, backed by his perseverance and discipline, key words when practicing any sporting activity.

For about two years, he trained at the best level, in one of the best tennis academies in Europe, he moved to Spain with the full support of his family; his maturity and ability reached a new standard; and this year 2021 has seen the fruits of his labor. Maybe he didn't start by sweeping every match. Hey! The other players also prepare thoroughly, so don't expect miracles, success has to be carved step by step; so despite starting with victory in the Australia Open and winning his first three matches, he falls in the fourth round against Andrey Rublev, after dropping out due to injury. By then he was already in the top 50 and approaching the elite.

A month later, he withdraws from the Mexican ATP 500 in Acapulco, he withdraws again due to an injury in his right wrist, again the hard courts are eluding him. Another month of recovery and reaches the semifinals in Monte Carlo, not bad to start his season on clay, in which he moves like a fish in water. Unfortunately, he lost again to Rublev, but he would repeat the semifinals in Munich and in the magic box of Madrid; and then he reached his favorite stage, the final of Geneva, his first title of the year. The victory in the outdoor clay felt so good that two months later, he took great advantage of his absence in Tokyo 2020, deciding not to participate, to continue adding points in the continuity of the calendar on clay in Europe.

What a success! Casper would achieve a dream hat-trick, first in Bastad Sweden, the following weeks in the Swiss clays of Gstaad and Kitbuhel respectively. This fruitful harvest propelled the Norwegian into the top 20, improving his father's personal best and becoming the top racket in the Scandinavian countries. But something was missing for the young Casper, something he would discover on the hard courts of North America; his stumble was at the Canadian Masters, where Tsitsipas would take revenge from Munich, letting him know the difference of his powerful game on the fast surface; same result of elimination in Cincinnati and the US Open, the adaptation was unfinished, but his outstanding participation in the generational competition par excellence (Laver Cup), seems to have done Casper good.

¡Vaya acierto!

Having lowered a little pressure and frustration of not being able to get favorable results as on clay, seems to have been the key. Despite the fun with the European team, his participation was key to win the first match against the giant Reilly Opelka, the rest was learning, he always seems to get something positive out of every tournament. So he showed up in San Diego and "Bingo", three games of good level and a final a little weak by his opponent (the British Cameron Norrie), with a 6 - 0 in 26 minutes, but with the continuity of his aggressive game during the tournament, aggressive but with ease, so he signed in 1 hour and 1 minute, his first title on hard court.

Now he appears in the prestigious Indian Wells tournament, as the player with the highest average of victories (47 - 12) and 5 - 5 in finals; on the eve of his debut against the Spanish Roberto Caballés Baena, a right-handed player who represents a start to continue demonstrating his intentions to continue winning, although each match is different, it is remarkable the favoritism of Ruud. Now Casper belongs to the Top Ten of the ATP and with the imminent movements of Rafa, Dominic and Roger, it is very likely that the Oslo player will continue his rise as one of the best tennis players in the world. Undoubtedly, this year has been the year of consolidation for Casper Ruud, who at 22 years of age has reached the doors of the elite of world tennis.

See you next time!

Good one.

Getting trained in Rafa's tennis academy would have really boosted his confidence, but, as you said, the results and the success has to be a step by step and it seems Casper Ruud has gone by that formula now to be able to compete with the best in the business as he is in top 10 already!!!

Thanks for sharing.

True @coolguy123, and when you see the success of someone so young, you think it has been the work of providence hehe ... And although he has a former tennis player father and a family that supports him, it is his perseverance and discipline that support him during the moments of competition on the court.
Of course, everything is important and is part of his training, but he still has had to work hard for it.

Thank you for your comment and appreciation.

Definitely, he might have a good coach, supporting family and everything, but if he is not putting his 100%, there is no use.

This guy has achieved a lot by the age of 22 and it's still the beginning for him and a long playing career ahead, it's just that he has to strive hard to keep himself fit, as he has been thru many injury concerns already.
