The Briton, who aspires to climb positions in the ranking (113 at present), has had a very positive year 2021 in terms of his achievements, that beyond the balance of wins and losses (not bad with 6 wins for 7 losses), the best thing he has achieved, in my opinion, is to regain his status as a winning tennis player, tough, which translates into a better level of competitiveness. I had the opportunity to watch his match against the young Frenchman Ugo Humbert, number 26 in the ranking and champion in the past Noventi Open, but on the hard court of Metz, it would be a challenge to face a motivated and fast-legged Andy, who has made the results of his training for this new stage as a professional tennis player, after his retirement in 2019, noticeable.

The preview of the match on Tuesday was promising, with Ugo in good shape and playing in the city where he was born only 23 years ago; after a season of ups and downs in which he reached his peak in the month of June, in the aforementioned tournament in the German city of Halle, where the left-hander gave the big surprise beating many of the best young tennis players on the circuit, such as Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Andrey Rublev (in the final). But he was unlucky in the next tournaments, where he fell in the first round. On the other side, I see Andy transforming every experience into something positive to feed his desire to return to the tennis elite, of which he was the leader in 2016.

Andy would start with his serve, securing his first serves, the same as Ugo, who tried good crosscourt shots and the short drop that put the Briton on the run; however an unforced error and double fault by Murray in the ninth game, opened the door for the Frenchman to go on the attack and get the break. That blink of an eye from his rival allowed him to take the first set 6-4 in 53 minutes. Then during the middle of the second set, specifically from the seventh game, Murray was the one who took advantage of Humbert's mistakes, breaking in the eighth and tenth, to even the match at set apiece in 51 minutes and give the spectators a third and final round. I watched the Briton put his experience into practice, combining his drive, slice and finally a change of speed, which dislodged Ugo to leave long shots to the side and back in response.

The third set started with the break by Sir Andy, who would repeat it in the third game, the host crumbled, I saw him looking lost and quite nervous; the Scotsman knew how to transmit all the pressure of playing at home and played loaded towards Humbert's drive, who was not comfortable with those placements. The French despite being down 0 - 4, insisted with his attack side by side, but could not capitalize on his break balls, it is true that the Scotsman fought and saved them, but he lacked cold blood to hit winning shots that would allow him to get closer on the scoreboard. Murray closed the eighth game with his serve, although his opponent had two break opportunities that he could not finish either. Andy would shine with a huge ace, stopping the clock in 2 hours and 23 minutes.

It was a great match and helps the Briton to regain more confidence in his game, as he showed in his next match against Canadian Vasek Popisil, whom he defeated in straight sets. In this season Andy Murray has made the public and tennis fans dream; gaining admiration and recognition for his effort, which at 34 years old is simply impressive.
He now awaits in the quarterfinals, the talented Polish Hubert Hurkacz, who has been rising in the ranking and is located in the thirteenth position. For yours truly, it is pleasing to see Murray playing with such desire; if Andy wins that difficult match tomorrow, he would be back in the top 100 of the ATP, which is one of the main goals for the Scot this year.

See you next time!
