Ha iniciado el primer torneo de maestros del año, con la cuadragésima octava edición del ATP Masters 1000 de Indian Wells, uno de los torneos más esperados del año y que comparte el cronograma del mes de marzo, con su evento homólogo en Miami; lo que enmarca una cierta normalización del calendario, en cuanto a sus fechas tradicionales de realización. El popular Valle de Coachella se engalana con la participación de las mejores raquetas del orbe, tanto masculinas, como femeninas (Uno de los pocos torneos que lo hace de manera simultánea sin ser un GS).

The first Masters tournament of the year has begun, with the forty-eighth edition of the ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells, one of the most awaited tournaments of the year, which shares the schedule of the month of March with its counterpart event in Miami; which marks a certain normalization of the calendar, in terms of its traditional dates of realization. No obstante, esta hazaña tendría su toque especial adicional, por conseguirlo ante un rival con quien se ha enfrentado en tres ocasiones en lo que va de temporada, el japonés Taro Daniel, quien lo dejó fuera del primer Grand Slam del año en Australia, con un impresionante 3 – 0 en favor del jugador nipón.

At the beginning of this season we already knew of the latent possibility of achieving the epic 700 victories by the legendary British tennis player Andy Murray; an athlete who undoubtedly has a place among the greats, not only in tennis. However, this feat would have an additional special touch, for achieving it against a rival with whom he has faced three times so far this season, the Japanese Taro Daniel, who left him out of the first Grand Slam of the year in Australia, with an impressive 3 - 0 in favor of the Japanese player.

Si me remonto al mes de enero, durante la gira australiana Murray obtuvo un balance de 5 victorias y 3 derrotas, algo que estuvo aceptable y que le permitió regresar al ansiado top 100; Andy quedaba a solo 3 triunfos para llegar a ese objetivo que tenía planteado y que se refería a la obtención de los 700 partidos ganados en su carrera como profesional, un logro que muy pocos pueden presumir y sobre todo los chamos de la “Next Gen” que aún se ven lejos de llegar a esa cifra y aunque nada es imposible, les queda mucho camino por andar.

Las acciones del partido estuvieron a la par, con un notable y sorpresivo dominio en el inicio para el japonés. Taro parece haber estudiado bien los movimientos de su rival, porque logró anticiparse a los tiros cruzados y los cambios de ritmo de Andy, no parecían hacerle mayor daño; incluso Daniel mostró sus habilidades con un slice muy bien colocado y mostró picardía al tratar de sorprender a Murray con par de fintas que no lograron su cometido. Me refiero a un smash que abanicó y luego del pique lo disimuló con otro slice corto; pero recibió su castigo con un drive al pasillo jajaja.

Taro seems to have studied well the movements of his opponent, because he managed to anticipate the crosscourt shots and Andy's changes of pace, did not seem to hurt him much; even Daniel showed his skills with a very well placed slice and showed mischief when trying to surprise Murray with a couple of feints that did not achieve their purpose. I am referring to a smash that he fanned and after the pique he disguised it with another short slice; but he received his punishment with a drive to the hallway hahaha.

La osadía del japonés amenizó el encuentro y puso a prueba las piernas de Murray, quien demostró su preparación y reacción, pero Taro vio los frutos en el cuarto y sexto game, para dejar un impresionante 6 – 1 en solo 28 minutos. Andy logró ajustar su juego en el segundo set, con un mayor control paralelo y un slice rasante, que mostró a un nipón incómodo ante este golpe, por supuesto que Andy le dio ración doble y consiguió quebrar al segundo y cuarto game, llegando a liderar el marcador 5 – 0 y seguía soltando tiros de lujo para el deleite del público.

La clase de Sir Andy continuó en la tercera manga y aunque el japonés le propinó un break tempranero, en sus ansias de recuperarse y sobrevivir, pero el británico echó mano de su gran experiencia y logró acertar combinaciones de alta factura, para remontar e irse arriba. Andy recuperaba y sumaba otro quiebre al sexto game, para mantener el control del raudo y ocurrente rival; Murray le jugó dentro de la pintura y logra empujarlo a la línea de fondo de manera fenomenal; cierra Andy con otro break en el noveno y último game, con recepción muy corta y hace errar a un confundido Taro.

Sir Andy's class continued in the third set and although the Japanese gave him an early break, in his eagerness to recover and survive, but the British player used his great experience and managed to hit high quality combinations to come back and go up. Fue una hora con 58 minutos de partido, para alcanzar su logro más esperado, un objetivo al que ha llegado con solvencia y demostrando que puede seguir ganando ante jugadores más jóvenes. Murray es todo un espectáculo y por eso todos lo quieren ver en los mejores torneos. Un guerrero incansable que en la entrevista post partido, indicó querer alcanzar los 800 ganados, es decir, su motivación y ganas de seguir adelante, siguen intactas luego de sus graves lesiones. Andy mantiene ese fuego interno, ese que la ha valido para ser el único tenista en activo (aparte de Federer, Nadal y Djokovic) en alcanzar ese número mágico.
