Me parece extraordinario ver al español Roberto Bautista Agut, disputando su primera final de la temporada, sobre todo al tener en cuenta su prematura eliminación en el primer round del Adelaida Open; ya que como ustedes saben, este evento de inicio de año posee dos versiones que se juegan de manera consecutiva, como previa al Grand Slam de Australia. Sin embargo, también conocemos lo aguerrido y entregado que es Bautista en la pista, donde no se guarda nada y se esfuerza al máximo para obtener sus resultados, algo que, tanto Rublev como Kokkinakis han experimentado de primera mano.

De mi parte, veía al anfitrión y campeón defensor Thanasi Kokkinakis, más entero e inspirado para llevarse el encuentro, pero frente a sí tuvo a un español casi intraficable desde la recepción, convertido en muro humano ante su potente saque. De verdad no me sorprendió que se fueran a 3 sets, porque llegaban sumamente parejos; Thanasi tuvo una semana fenomenal en la que venció al primer sembrado Andrey Rublev, quien fue eliminado por Roberto la semana pasada, también en 3 sets muy cerrados. Así que el ruso se topó con dos tipos inspirados por estos días ja,ja,ja.

Respecto al otro finalista para esta madrugada, el surcoreano Soon-Woo Kwon; ha tenido una semana de maravilla en la que inició perdiendo su partido en la clasificatoria previa, pero accedió en condición de "Lucky Loser" y no ha conocido la derrota, desde su revancha con el checo Tomas Machac; luego serían Pablo Carreño, Mikael Ymer y anoche el joven Jack Draper; quienes han salido del torneo por la raqueta del habilidoso Kwon. Por cierto, en ese choque con Draper le vi casi perdido, en situaciones muy complicadas ante el zurdo favorito de Gran Bretaña.

Si bien Draper fue valiente lanzándose a la ofensiva, tuvo frente a él a un Soon-Woo que lo superó en aceleración de la pelota y en su juego de pies; eso le dio mejor balance a Kwon para atacar y defender, tanto en la pintura como en la línea de fondo.

Con los antecedentes de Draper respecto al calor, no me extraña que el cambiante reflejo solar lo afectara durante el partido, aunque la pista es techada la luz a mitad de pista parecía confundir un poco; incluso a mí como espectador. Sencillamente Jack no aguantó el tren de ataque de un asiático que parecía multiplicarse en la cancha; fue lamentable porque Draper tuvo grandes actuaciones ante Sonego, Tommy Paul y Kachanov, en las que pasó invicto; pero cada partido es diferente y en el tenis no se puede parpadear, dado que las cosas pueden cambiar en un abrir y cerrar de ojos.
