¿Falta de Definición para Daniil?

Concluidos los torneos categorías ATP 500 en Queen´s y Halle, fui testigo del bicampeonato del italiano Matteo Berrettini en el torneo londinense, algo que le cae como anillo al dedo para luchar por regresar al top ten; no obstante, en cuanto al Noventi Open alemán, llamó poderosamente mi atención el hecho de ver de nuevo al ruso Daniil Medvedev, en su condición de monarca del ranking mundial, disputando su segunda final al hilo, pero con otro resultado adverso a cuestas, en la instancia definitiva de una competencia oficial.

After the ATP 500 category tournaments at Queen's and Halle, I witnessed the two-time champion Matteo Berrettini from Italy in the London tournament, something that fits him like a glove to fight for a return to the top ten; however, as for the German Open, I was struck by the fact of seeing again the Russian Daniil Medvedev, in his condition of world ranking monarch, playing his second final in a row, but with another adverse result in the final stage of an official competition.

Recuerdo que la semana pasada, Daniil fue el gran finalista en el ATP 250 de s´Hertogenbosch en tierras holandesas, pero cayó en sets corridos ante Tim Rijthoven, la revelación del evento. Pero algo que me pareció curioso en el caso de Meddy, es su buen desempeño inicial y la manera cómo llegó a ambas finales, tanto en el Libema Open como en Halle, el ruso avanzó sin ceder sets ante sus rivales, además enfrentó al bielorruso Iliá Ivashka en ambos certámenes, superándolo con un marcador muy similar, el primer set en el tie break 7-6(10-8); 6-4 y 7-6(4); 6-3 respectivamente.

I remember that last week, Daniil was the great finalist in the ATP 250 of s'Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, but he lost in straight sets against Tim Rijthoven, the revelation of the event. Y también por extraña coincidencia, el marcador en ambas finales estuvo bastante parecido, dado que ante Rijthoven cayó 6-4, 6-1; mientras que ante Hurkacz lo hizo 6-1 y 6-4 (solo cambió el orden jajaja), aunque más allá del puntaje, en realidad fue la manera contundente como vi a Daniil perder ante ellos, con desaciertos y errores que no mostraba en su camino previo ¿Le estará afectando la presión de verse obligado a ganar? Esta posibilidad es muy posible porque desde mi perspectiva, Medvedev esta urgido de títulos que lo mantengan en la cima.

And also by strange coincidence, the score in both finals was quite similar, since against Rijthoven he lost 6-4, 6-1; while against Hurkacz he lost 6-1 and 6-4 (only the order changed hahaha), although beyond the score, in reality it was the overwhelming way I saw Daniil lose to them, with mistakes and errors that he did not show in his previous path. This possibility is very possible because from my perspective, Medvedev is in need of titles to keep him at the top.

Me parece inusual ver que una de las raquetas más dominantes de la actualidad, no haya podido concretar los títulos en las cinco finales que ha disputado, precisamente luego de ganar su primer Grand Slam en el Us Open. Ahora bien, en el caso de este partido en la final del Halle Open, lo que sí marcó la diferencia fue la paridad, en los encuentros previos con el polaco Hubert hurkacz, dado que estaban igualados a dos triunfos por lado, aunque su último choque fue en marzo en el Masters 1000 de Miami, con triunfo para Hubert, así que era una buena oportunidad para redimirse para el "Pulpo".

I find it unusual to see that one of the most dominant racquets of today has not been able to win titles in the five finals he has played, precisely after winning his first Grand Slam at the US Open. Now, in the case of this match in the final of the Halle Open, what made the difference was the parity in the previous encounters with the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, since they were evenly matched at two wins per side, although their last clash was in March at the Masters 1000 in Miami, with a win for Hubert, so it was a good opportunity for the "Octopus" to redeem himself.

El partido en la final fue prácticamente un poema tenístico para el polaco, uno de mis jugadores preferidos desde que está en el circuito, por su humildad y buen desarrollo del nivel competitivo que ostenta actualmente; Hurkacz estuvo muy fino en el juego cortado (a lo Roger) y con gran efectividad en su juego corto, algo que le hace daño al tenis de fondo de Daniil, que vio como su rival le quebraba al segundo y cuarto games, pudiendo sostener apenas en el sexto game; mientras que Hubi estuvo impecable al servicio (arma letal) y logró el 6-1 en solo 27 minutos.

The match in the final was practically a tennis poem for the Pole, one of my favorite players since he is in the circuit, for his humility and good development of the competitive level he currently holds; Hurkacz was very fine in the cut game (like Roger) and with great effectiveness in his short game, something that hurts Daniil's baseline tennis, who saw how his rival broke him in the second and fourth games, being able to hold only in the sixth game; while Hubi was impeccable in his service (lethal weapon) and achieved the 6-1 in only 27 minutes.

Le hecatombe para el ruso mejor rankeado de la actualidad, cuando recibió otro break de lujo por parte del polaco, en el primer game de la segunda manga, fue una situación inusual porque los gritos de Daniil hacia su entrenador, provocaron que éste abandonara el recinto (Owl Arena), luego de esos 16 golpes de feria. Irónicamente Meddy pudo mejorar un poco su eficiencia en cancha, salvando sendos puntos de break al quinto y séptimo games, sin embargo no lograba quebrar ningún juego de Hubert, que se mostró seguro al ataque, muy rápido de pies y con un slice que se convirtió en la pesadilla de Meddy.

Fueron 63 minutos de pesadilla total para Medvedev, que por cierto no estará en Wimbledon este año, por restricciones relacionadas con el tema del conflicto entre Rusia y Ucrania; Daniil no pudo esta vez ante el perfecto planteamiento de Hurkacz, que ahora es uno de los pocos tenistas que le aventajan en el cara a cara dentro del circuito; pero que también debo reconocer su grandiosa semana en Halle, superando a Maxime Cressy, Ugo Humbert, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Nick Kyrgios y a Daniil, cerrando su semana perfecta con 5 trofeos en igual cantidad de finales, un récord nada despreciable para el polaco que asciende y se mete de nuevo en el top ten del ranking mundial.

It was 63 minutes of total nightmare for Medvedev, who by the way will not be at Wimbledon this year, due to restrictions related to the issue of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine; Daniil could not this time against the perfect approach of Hurkacz, who is now one of the few players who are ahead of him in the head-to-head in the circuit; but I must also recognize his great week in Halle, beating Maxime Cressy, Ugo Humbert, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Nick Kyrgios and Daniil, closing his perfect week with 5 trophies in the same number of finals, a not inconsiderable record for the Pole who climbs and gets back into the top ten of the world ranking.
