Si de algo no tenía ninguna duda, era de la presencia de Carlos Alcaraz en la final de la reconocida Mutua Madrileña, en la cual hoy defendió y revalidó su título del año pasado y además, cumpliendo con la figura máximo favorito al "Back to Back", de los principales torneos tenisticos de su tierra (Barcelona y Madrid). No obstante, quienes han sorprendido a propios y extraños durante estas dos semanas, son dos de los 4 semifinalistas, encarnados en el chino Zhang zhizhen y el alemán Jan-Lennar Struff; quienes sobrepasaron por mucho las expectativas de este servidor y fanático del deporte blanco.

Quizás por ese empleo a fondo, se vió disminuido ante el implacable Aslan Karatsev, que pudo romper su ritmo y desarticular el gran tenis que le valió a Zhang, ser el primer jugador chino en una semifinal de un torneo categoría Masters 1000. Esto es un gran logro histórico para este atleta y el tenis asiático.

Y no solo se trata de verle recuperado de su físico, sino que además se atrevió a jugar con gallardía, buscando sorprender con tiros y jugadas inesperadas. Jan-Lennar mantuvo su nivel en 9 partidos, al venir desde la etapa clasificatoria y enfrentó 2 veces al complicado Karatsev, algo sencillamente aplaudible.

Pero no su exitosa participación no se quedó allí, también fue el artífice de cortar con la racha de Dusan Lajovic, el argentino Pedro Cachín, al norteamericano Ben Shelton y el griego Stefanos Tsitsipás. Es decir , lo de Struff no fue producto de la suerte o casualidad, sino de un jugador que hizo lo correcto en cada situación y ante rivales del más alto nivel. Por ello, cuando Jan-Lennar ganó el segundo set ante un poderoso y excelso Alcaraz, supe que era un finalista que salió a batallar, logrando junto a Emil, ser los únicos en poder arrebatarle un set al "Maestro" español.

La final de hoy no ha podido estar mejor, porque si alguien sintió aburrimiento cuando Carlos rompió el 1er game "pensando que sería una barrida", se equivocó; Jan-Lennar mostró disciplina y un gran juego sobre la red. Nunca bajó los brazos y haber llegado desde el lucky loser hasta la final, pareció un espejismo. El veterano de 33 años movió muy rápido sus piernas, usó de maravilla su revés en paralelo y osó meterse en la pista para restar el servicio rival (incluso jugando al saque y volea, tan poco común en esta superficie). Struff recuperó el quiebre al 4to, pero no pudo evitar el 6-4 en 52 minutos.

Pero la segunda manga nos decía que el espectáculo no acababa, porque el alemán seguía dando sorpresa, quebrando en cero a Carlos ¡Y vaya que es difícil hacerlo ja,ja,ja! Y que el público viera abajo 0-3 a su nuevo ídolo era digno de asombro. Jan-Lennar no aflojaría el acelerador y cerró con un 6-3 refrescante. Creo que Struff nos dejó un libreto muy bien diseñado de cómo complicar el juego de Carlitos; más allá del resultado, porque en el 3er set salió a relucir la capacidad de Alcaraz para ajustarse a las dificultades, eso hizo la diferencia hoy, porque el español demostró su jerarquía.

Ciertamente, Carlos sigue demostrando su dominio en cualquier escenario y aunque se vió superado en el 2do ser, consiguió descifrar la debilidad de su oponente. Alcaraz atacó con tiros al cuerpo de Struff y aunque pueda parecer poco respetuoso, le dió los resultados que necesitaba. Además de seguir usando esa finta casi irreal al ejecutar su drop shot desde la línea de fondo. Fueron 2 horas y 25 minutos de emoción y buen tenis, el marcador quedaba en 6-4, 3-6 y 6-3 para el joven de 20 años que levanta su cuarto título del año y 10mo de su meteórica carrera. ¡Felicidades Maestro Campeón!
