My Actifit Report Card: April 24 2022

Foot’s doing better, so maybe I was fretting over nothing with the worries about breaking something. Still very ginger, and I’m sure I could make it hurt if I wanted to, but I have to say that it’s a relief that it’s behaving as well as it is. I had to put on shoes a couple times over the last 24 hours, and it wasn’t comfortable but went without any hitches (e.g. no sudden “oh crap, something’s wrong” pain).

Stomach’s pretty good too, though not perfect. The stomach doctor recommended particular probiotics for me, and while she said I might not see any improvement for three months I’m hoping that it will be more effective than the last probiotics I was on, which I don’t think really did anything. Of course, they’re partly there to prevent bad things, rather than really doing anything actively. Still, much better than the previous advice I got which was “oh, they probably all work, just take whatever you’ll be consistent with.”

On unrelated notes, I think I’ve forgotten to take my pills a couple times recently. I don’t take anything for serious stuff, just allergies and experimenting with stuff that might help my stomach (fortunately, all of it seems to have really mild side-effects at worst, and I haven’t had any, so I’m not too concerned about that side of things). The problem is that I don’t know after the fact whether I forgot or not, which is kind of a big deal. I might need to get one of those pill organizers.

Writing has been really hard for me recently. Some of that is down to writing more fiction, which I just don’t hit the same word count with, and some of that is just maybe a mix of burnout and lack of inspiration/direction. I’m still basically all-in on three projects: Carrion Birds (hopefully out this week), Kenoma (??? release), and the book on libertarianism (which is in editing).

I’ve also got freelancing, which will likely take a few hours out of the next couple days. I need to follow up with my client because it sounds like he’s changing some project scope/content stuff for me and I want to make sure I’m not jumping ahead of stuff.

I want to go and do the map illustrations for Kenoma, since they’re the blocker on the release of the Quickstart for DriveThruRPG (as well as the core rulebook, since at least the Alcove stuff will be recycled).

I’ve got some refinements to methodology that should make it go more painlessly.

Consoles and Controllers also needs its 1.0 release, which will include more PDF character sheets with distinct “game” identity for each of the in-universe games characters can come from, as well as layout beautification and other stuff. I don’t know how long that will take me (especially because I’m doing very simple stylized designs for all the visuals), but I need to get to it sooner rather than later.
