Sacred Mountain ⛰️

The San Francisco Peaks are a stunning mountain range located in northern Arizona, near the city of Flagstaff, within the Coconino National Forest. These peaks are remnants of an ancient stratovolcano that once stood over 16,000 feet tall. The highest point, Humphreys Peak, rises to an elevation of 12,637 feet, making it the tallest peak in Arizona.

North side ☝️

The San Francisco Peaks are part of the San Francisco Volcanic Field, which consists of more than 600 volcanic cones, craters, and lava flows spread over 1,800 square miles. The Peaks themselves were formed from volcanic activity millions of years ago, and their rugged landscape was shaped by erosion and tectonic forces.

View from SP Crater ☝️

SP Crater rises to an elevation of 7,021 feet above sea level, not 2,300. The 820 feet refers to its prominence above the surrounding terrain, but the crater itself sits high on the Colorado Plateau, giving it that lofty summit elevation.

SP Crater stands out as one of the most iconic and visually perfect cinder cones in the entire volcanic field.

Hope you enjoyed the mountain range history and geological significance, And if you liked my photography! 🍻
