The incidence of online abuse has grown over time. it all started as a means to bully another person but it has grown beyond that and turned even more dangerous. Sports and football have not been left out of these predicaments and in fact, it's is has been on the increasing side of late in the English prémier league.

Before diving into the why of why online abuses are becoming more rampant, it should be noted that other sports also experience these abuses. Boxing has not been left out really and I could remember an incident that involved Deontay Wilder. an online abuser who goes by the name Charlie Zelenoff once abused him online while also challenging him to a fight.

Wilder accepted the request and flew down to where the online abusers reside. Wilder made sure that the online abusers signed a waiver deal to exempt him from being sued for any damages. The match began and wilder did not just beat the online abuser, he punished him till he apologized for his actions.

Wilder said and I quote after the match that;

You can be a critic and say certain things, but there’s a limit.
“He took it to a whole another level. One thing I don’t condone is racism and he brought racism to the table.

“He [talked about] duct-taping my daughter’s mouth and when he said that I visualized him doing it and it upset me.
“And then he said he’s gonna kill me, murder me. Those three things, man, I was overboard. When it’s like that, I wanna see you.”

This event happened in 2014 and it is scarier of late due to the caliber of people it has been directed to. From online trolling, it has graduated to directing death threats to a person or a sportsman. In the English football world, the latest to receive death threats was referee mike dean. It is believed that the reason why death threats were directed towards Mike dean was because of him sending off Westham player Tomas Soucek in a match against Fulham.

The Red card was of course ruled out by the football association and Tomas Soucek will be eligible to play in the next game for Westham. This has done little to subsides the anger of fans and it has seen death threats being directed to the Veterans referee and his family. This had led to the Referee asking the football association to exclude him from all premiership matches this week, to stay with his family.

Sympathies have flown towards the veteran's way and one coach sympathy stood out. The said person was Mourinho and he could easily understand the whole scenario as m one of his players has been subject to online death threats in the past targeted by online bullies. Although Mike dean had complained the police and investigations are ongoing.

These death threats are becoming more rampant than ever as premier league football stars such as Axel Tuanzebe, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Reece James have all been subject to these threats. It has slowly crept into the game as advancements in technology and social media have been integrated into how the game is been enjoyed.

A keynote to worry about is that the numbers of online death attacks received by players have gone up since lockdown. Bullies now hide behind their phone or their laptop to carry out such distasteful act. While online attacks seem to be on the increase and gradually superseding racism, the football associations have yet to properly put in measures to curb out these growing trends.

Online abusers could actually incorporate racists remarks and also issue death threats without leaving the comfort of their home. Their action might cause more damage than they would realize and all this is been done with an excuse of it being done from passion.

As of the case of steven bergwin who was attacked after the showdown match between Liverpool and Spurs earlier this season. The Spurs player has lost countless opportunities to put the north London side ahead but failed to convert chances after chances for the spurs. As soon as the game ended with Tottenham losing through a Friminho late goal, the player started recíeving death threats from social media and spurs fans.

These threats led to Mourinho speaking up for his player and said that losing was also a team effort and steven bargain shouldn't be blamed for the loss. All spurs players showed their support for their teammates while the player was granted time off from football in general.

What online bullies and abusers don't know is that death threats and abuses affect an individual psychological being and make them insecure. It also leads to questioning their capabilities and also self-doubt. A list of the effect of an online bully on an individual is endless sometimes usually involves extensive treatment beyond getting the mojo back.

The English FA has acted indifferently to the rise of this abuses and its begs the question If the federation really cares or not. All this while that the deaths threats and online abusers were rampant. It may look like the federation has got no role to play but they have got many implementations to do to make sure football stands against cyberbullying.

Also, more should be done in protecting players and football personal from this kind of attack. While it might not Affect the players physically, it leaves a mental imprint in one's brain and that could be devastating.

Este suceso ocurrió en 2014 y últimamente da más miedo por el calibre de personas a las que se ha dirigido. Del trolling online se ha pasado a dirigir amenazas de muerte a una persona o a un deportista. En el mundo del fútbol inglés, el último en recibir amenazas de muerte ha sido el árbitro Mike Dean. Se cree que la razón por la que las amenazas de muerte se dirigieron a Mike dean fue porque expulsó al jugador del Westham Tomas Soucek en un partido contra el Fulham.

La tarjeta roja fue, por supuesto, descartada por la asociación de fútbol y Tomas Soucek podrá jugar el próximo partido con el Westham.
