My Actifit Report Card: September 7 2021

We played an eighteen hole round of disc golf out at our favorite course. I tried out the new Fission Photon disc my son got me the night before. He kept trying to get me to try it out so I finnaly said I would pay for it if he picked one up.

On the first throw it dumped hard left on me. I could tell right off it was not going to be a good disc for me. I really wanted to see if it would work out so I kept playing with it. It was way too overstable for my backhand and difficult to control because of the light weight at 152 grams. I thought I could maybe get more power on it at that weight but that turned out to be not the case.

It flew forehand pretty well but most lightweight discs are really tough for me to control with a forehand flick. I ended up hitting the first available tree with it when trying to hit a pretty large gap on the second time I threw it.

After racking up a lot of bad throws with it, I kind of decided I would shelve it. I offered my son a chance to throw it and it seemed to work out alright for him. He throws with a lot more power than I do. I said he could have the disc if he wanted it and haven't gotten it back yet so a least maybe someone will throw it.

I might be able to use it if I practiced with it a lot. It is not a very compfortable disc in the hand for me and I think that makes the angle control very difficult. On a backhand when I grip it with my usual tightness it really digs into my palm with a very sharp edge. On a forehand the odd shape for the rim does not fit right on my index finger knuckel.

In any case the Destiny disc is back in the bag. I figure I can do alright with it so long as I don't crush it on a windy day. (Just in case you see and elderly person with a Destiny disc out on the course better not park your new car out pin deep and right of any baskets, LOL.)

I really do like over-mold MVP and Axiom discs a lot. Everything under a nine speed that I have tried works great for me. (Even the overstable Fireball disc.) Most of their wide rim discs that I have tried are not my favorite, however, the Tenacity was a big favorite of mine. I liked it a bit too much and hit too many trees with it and it got too understable. I might like another of those in a more stable plastic and max wieght. The edge is sharp on it too but at least I can get it to fly how I want.

I was hopeful the new disc would work out, my son seemed to think it was a good fit but at least I'm glad I tried it.

This photo was taken this morning out on the disc golf course:

It's a view back towards hole fourteen and fifteen's baskets. (The photo was modified in GIMP.)

I think if you have try that hard to make a disc work, it probably isnt for you. Right now, anyway.

You and your son are getting a lot of milage out of the sport. That is awesome to see!

It sure has been a great way for us to get out and do something. He is pretty busy but at least he still has time to play disc golf.

Maybe someday when I can throw harder the disc will be a better fit.

This is good, with your efforts it will give a very perfect result, even though you have many failures.

It is always a learning experience. I think that is what makes it so much fun to try to improve.
