My Actifit Report Card: March 13 2023
I did some walking today and a few tasks around the house. It was raining most of the day so I did not feel like doing much else.
I crawled under the house in the crawlspace with a heating and air conditioning person to check out the house ductwork. Things were not looking too good under the house and the rats had colonized the place again. I'm going to need to have some insulation replaced again.
I'm feeling like trying to contract out the job of fixing up the crawlspace. I need to take care of a couple of spots in the yard where the rats are living and entering the crawlspace first. I think I can do that work myself.
Getting into and out of the crawlspace is a bit much for me at this point. I've done this type of work a lot when I was younger but now it is very hard on my arm.
I've decided on a ductless heat pump to add some air conditioning in the summer and supplement the natural gas heater in the winter. It is supposed to work down to 5 degrees so if it does not get colder than that I might never need to use the natural gas heater.
With an electric, bike, car, and heat pump, I will be mostly fossil fuel free. The electricity around here is generated mostly from wind power and dams but I might add some solar cells on the roof so that I am not as dependent on the powers that be to keep providing electricity.
At this point, I'm feeling like removing a lot of the blackberry hedge because it gets so dense that the rats have a great place to hide underneath it. Between the easy food supply, outdoor living space, and crawlspace they have a great setup. Removing most of the hedges should encourage them to find other places to live.

I just installed a mini-split heat two years ago, they work fantastic!
If you are the DIY type Costco online sells the "Mr Cool" line of ductless mini-splits.
It comes precharged and they have very detailed video and instructions.
It is a 24,000 BTU/ 2.5 Ton it will heat/cool over 2,000 SF!
Back then Costco sold this for about $1,600 😄
