Barcelona player Anso Vati said on Monday that his recall to Spain's under-21 team was a surprise.

The promising 16-year-old was recently granted Spanish citizenship and has been called up by under-21 coach Luis de la Fonte to replace his team-mate Carles Perez, who left the camp due to a muscle injury.

With his talent at the Blaugrana this season, Fati could start his career as a Spanish international on Tuesday with the under-21 youth team against Montenegro in the Euro 2021 qualifier in Hungary and Slovenia.

"It is my pride and honor to be here. I will do everything in my power to make people happy," he said in comments to Spanish media.

He explained that his father called him, while on his way to lunch with his friends, to tell him about the summoning, and the need to travel that same day to Madrid to join the camp.
