When A Tree is Half Dead, It Still Maximises Its Usefulness

Funny how we humans when we are half dead / partial paralize, we whine and cry and ask the whole world to look how miserable we are...

Nature shows otherwise

If you have been following my past 2 posts you would know that I have been doing some hard labour (of love) helping out to clear the 3 months unattended back yard.

One of them is this sweet sop tree

I noticed half of its body was already brittle and dried up, and the other side was lushed green, so I took the saw and cutter and started to snip off the dried body, hoping the healthy part could branch out new blades of green life.

Then.... When the machete was just about to strike the last part of the dried up body...

Buzzing sound came!

3 bumble bees were particularly hovering over one thin stump and forbid me to move forward.

One of them, I guess it is the mom, decided to stay on the top of the stump (for the whole afternoon till evening) and was watching every move I made.

Then I realised the hole, and this was the first time I noticed a bumble bee hive.

It wasn't like the normal hives, but it looked more like a bird's nesting or squirrel's home. Nicely cut round hole just big enough to fit 2 bumble bees.

I suppose it is a give and take thing. While the bees had a home, the tree got their flowers pollinated.

Which explains one side is dying, one side is thriving.

I only hope that the little bumble bee family will not kill the entire tree which is good enough for us.
