Both Monagas and Caracas are looking to stay at the top of the table to ensure their qualification at the end of the regular phase of the 2022 tournament; the azulgranas are in third place and the capital team is in fifth place. The duel was power to power, Akinyoola and company wanted to take three points in Maturín.

In the Monumental de Maturín, there was a very even duel in the first 45 minutes of the match, the individual duels were very well seen by those present in the stadium, Akinyoola disturbed the defensive backline of the azulgrana team, with his physical power, and in one he made a good move to shoot and hit the left post defended by Nicolás Caprio. Monagas also had clear chances, but they did not manage to finish, so Akinyoola's shot against the post was the highlight of the first half.

While we were in the stands we commented on the number of players that are currently at the service of Caracas FC, which is managed by Francesco Stifano, who had a past in the Eastern team and we began to count them, starting with Vicente Rodríguez, Carlos 'Mono' Suárez, Albert Zambrano, Rubert Quijadas (this one is from Monagüense by birth), Alain Baroja and Edson Castillo.

In the second half Monagas was much superior, having more possession of the ball in most of the last 45 minutes of the game, the DT Jhonny Ferreira thought to defend the 0-0 score by taking out players up front, such as Aquiles Ocanto and Franklin Gonzalez to give entry to players in the midfield, trying to control the last minutes of the game. In added time, the main whistle blew for a penalty in favor of the azulgrana team, after a handball in the area caused by the young winger Juan Mota, after blocking his shot, all this led to the penalty to win the match, but due to the lack of players on the field, the left defender Richard Peralta took the penalty, the Panamanian kicked to Baroja's left side, stopping the shot in a great way by the former Monagas SC.

Baroja apologized to the Monaguense supporters' club, but he touched the Caracas crest, implying that it is his beloved club, so the supporters' club responded by booing the goalkeeper. One more day I enjoyed attending the Monumental de Maturín.

The player I was excited to see was Juan Pablo Añor, unfortunately DT Francesco Stifano did not make him see action in this match, I have the impression that both teams were keeping the 0-0 score, the changes were not to look for goals but to defend the goal and keep it at zero, an objective that both achieved.
