Happy Wednesday my dear sports lovers, today I am excited to tell you that after 5 months of rest, caused by a fracture in my left hallux which required an operation, I have finally been able to return to training. Functional training has been an important part of my life for several years and has helped me incredibly to improve the physical abilities necessary to have a high level of performance in my sport discipline.

I have been a high performance athlete for 8 years in the discipline Ultimate Frisbee and have had the honor of representing my country on several occasions. Yesterday has marked a very important step for me because I have gone from having to walk with a walker for several months to be able to return to my workouts, of course every start must be controlled until I recover again the range of motion of my finger, my physiotherapist gave me several recommendations and my coach helped me indicating me some variations of the routine exercises more in line with my condition, he also recommended me to start only with self-loading exercises so that the muscles are adapting again to the sport activity.

Although I still cannot practice my sport because it is difficult for me to run, I have already taken this significant step. The routine lasted 60 minutes, we used to start with a neuromuscular conditioning adapted to a Tae-tek choreography to warm up both the mind and the body, then we did a pre-fatigue which consists of performing several exercises prior to the circuit so that once we start it our muscles are already congested, this helps your muscles gain more strength and have a more optimal growth.

After conditioning and pre-fatigue, we did an aerobic and anaerobic part which consisted of a 10 minute jog and at the end of it we did 20 burpees, as I still can not jog or jump properly, my physiotherapist recommended me to change the burpees for 20 plyometric squats (with jumping).

Afterwards we performed a self-load series for biceps, core and quads using the TRX, the exercises were 50 repetitions of elbow flexion, 50 repetitions of abdominal crunch and 14 repetitions of a combined movement of unilateral squat + pistol squat, my trainer recommended me to perform only 50 normal squats.

After this series we moved on to an AMRAP circuit which consists of performing as many repetitions as you can in the stipulated time, yesterday it was 15 minutes and included self-loading and overloading exercises, I only performed the self-loading ones. The exercises for the amrap were:

  • 10 supine pull-ups on the trx
  • 2x5 reps of biceps curl swing with the kettlebell
  • 10 penknife
  • 2x5 unilateral russian swing with kettlebell
  • 10 push-up squats
  • 2x5 repetitions of unilateral rack squats with kettlebell

This workout is quite complete and is also quite strong, I feel proud to have done all the exercises that were within my reach after 5 months without training and an operation, my resistance dropped a little but it is something that I know I will recover quickly and as expected, today I hurt every millimeter of my body, but I must confess that I missed this pain hahaha Now I just have to continue with my therapies to regain mobility in my finger and return to running which is what I long for. Thank you very much for reading me, I hope you liked this routine, I will be showing you my progress here, every step is giant even if it seems small. Virtual hug to all of you! ❤️
