Recientemente el equipo de fútbol irlandés, Bohemians, lanzó una camiseta en homenaje al Rey del Reggae, con los colores Rastafari (verde, amarillo y rojo) y el rostro del fallecido y reconocido cantante jamaiquino, tras encontrarme con esta noticia me interesó mucho investigar un poco más sobre la vida de Bob Marley y su relación con el fútbol. El lanzamiento del jersey se dio por una razón muy especial y una gran conexión que guarda el club con el cantante, el último concierto de Bob Marley al aire libre lo entregó precisamente en el Dalymount Park de Dublín, Irlanda, en mayo de 1980, de hecho, el equipor irlandés había sacado un diseño honorífico para el jamaiquino en 2018 pero tanto la campaña de conmemoración como las camisetas tuvieron que ser retiradas de la tienda oficial del club ya que no contaban con los derechos sobre el uso de la imagen del cantante, situación que en esta ocasión es diferente ya que el Bohemians de Irlanda y la familia de Marley (dueños de los derechos de imagen del cantante) llegaron a un acuerdo para vender la camiseta con la que se le rendirá un tributa al acérrimo apasionado del fútbol.

Más allá de que una lesión jugando fútbol le haya costado tanto, Marley nunca dijo arrepentirse de jugar fútbol y hasta su último momento se consideró un apasionado total del fútbol y también del depote en general. Tras el mítico concierto, Marley se desvaneció en las calles de New York y un año después fallecería tras sucumbir ante el cáncer en su pie, apenas con 36 años de edad.
