En la siguiente temporada, ya en abril de 2017, la Juventus goleaba 3-0 al Barcelona y tras el 0-0 en Camp Nou, tumbaba a los culés y los eliminaba de la Liga de Campeones, tan solo 4 días después, el Barca visitaba al Bernabeú con los ánimos por el piso pues solo una victoria ante un Real Madrid en su mejor estado de forma, les permitiría seguir soñando con la liga, el equipo de Zidane venía embalado, lograron derrotar al Bayern en el tiempo extra y Cristiano venía en su mejor faceta goleadora, era la última campaña de Luis Enrique que ya había anunciado su salida del club al final de la temporada, muchísima expectativa rodeaba al clásico y tras el inicio del partido, Casemiro y Messi colocaron el 1-1 en el primer tiempo, ya al final del partido, los zapatazos de Rakitic y luego de James Rodríguez colocaban un 2-2 que prácticamente sentenciaba la Liga para los madridistas, no obstante apareció Lionel Messi tras una gran jugada del Barca y anotó con un potente remate de izquierda que no alcanzó Keylor Navas, el Barca anotaba 3 en el Bernabeú y 1 mes más tarde, el Real Madrid goleaba a la Juventus en la final de la Liga de Campeones para alzar nuevamente el cetro europeo.
