Ready or not, here I come..

-> from finally discovering a municipal bin near the wetlands!

📌 Adventure begun!

With Cape Town enjoying some spended warmth the last couple of days, I couldn't wait to spend more time cleaning up round the local wetlands. Today, I found the journey there pretty chilled actually. The route I picked seemed very clean (indicating that I've made a real impact). I'll probably mix things up going forward (with regards to the route).

The first piece of litter was found on my arrival (just up the curb). As I've entered around here so many times now.. this clearly demonstrates how new litter can and does appear periodically.

Walking along the sandy path, I found some strange metal disc. It seemed quite heavy, though I have no idea what it was.

Scanning some of the ground vegetation, I came across an area strewn with some warn paper fragments. As soon as I pulled on each piece, it would start to break apart (making the cleanup more frustrating than usual). I guess it was probably there for quite a while.

Another fragment of broken glass. I'm guessing from liquor, though I'm not an expert. I did recognize, however, that it needed to be safely disposed of.

A piece of an old sun bleached promotional insert.. I'm thinking the kind one may find included with the local newspaper.

There were quite a few fragments of that strewn about.

I was able to recover some more paper near a peculiar hole in the ground. I wonder what lives down there? Maybe a mole? Maybe a snake? Maybe a mole snake?!

I started to wonder when I'd come across some plastic. Glad I was able to get this bread bag outta here, before it had a chance to make it down to the water.

More of that promotional material from earlier it seems. The distance between the finds highlighting how far rubbish can travel in the wind!

A small piece of plastic spoiling the beautiful greenery.

A great find for today - located where I saw someone lying in the grass the other day (by the main entrance to the wetlands). That's so messed up! Anyway, I managed to bag it.

So does this! Wonder if I got it all? Probably not. What fascinates me.. is that these pieces appear to have been out here for a long time (but I also don't recall seeing them before). Maybe some old litter from deeper in the bush then, which somehow blew back out? What a journey!

📌 Mission accomplished!

Overall a wonderful day to be active, see my geese friends and clean the planet. I'll continue to expand my reach as I'm able to. Right now, it sorta feels like 2 steps forward, 1 step back. There is, however, a noticeable improvement to the local areas - which I now frequent. Oh yes.. I was delighted to finally find a municipal bin near the wetlands - which is where I photographed the trash collected today (after which I emptied the carrier and then closed the lid).
