My Actifit & Clean Planet Adventure: Oct 7 2023

Heya Hiva シ

Ready or not, here I come..

-> from appreciating one particularly remarkable specimen of vegetation! Stay tuned to the end, to make its acquaintance.

Adventure afoot!

Although the plant in question may be found on the way to the local wetlands, it was actually on my way back when I stopped to appreciate its wonder. As a result, you'll first have to join me on my cleanup activity for the day.

Before..

After..

The first piece of litter resembled that of a little scroll. I certainly was curious as to its textual contents. Alas, there was nothing pertaining to anything of great interest - just a till slip.

Before..

After..

What you can't see in this scene.. is that just to the left, there was in fact a parked car. I wondered what people may have thought - with me lowering myself to take photos?! Feeling like a bright spotlight was shining directly on me.. I was sure not to take too long, to complete that very important task of litter recovery haha.

Before..

After..

There was a lot going on in this scene. I think it was 4 shards of glass which were removed.

Before..

After..

This appeared have been a large plastic lid, from either that of a yogurt or feta cheese container - I think. That's my guess anyway.

Before..

After..

At first I thought this was just an old rag. On its removal, however.. it seemed to be more like a piece of shirt. Not all of it was faded either, there were bright red parts (I guess that which wasn't exposed to the elements directly).

Before..

After..

A plastic bread bag removed. This particular area, still seems pretty bad in terms of trash.

Before..

After..

Looks like a strip of newspaper I reckon. Much better with it gone.

Before..

After..

These pieces of trash required some reach. In the end, the recovery was successful, though I always get stressed with these reeds. Well.. I mean the possibility of ticks hitching a ride outta them. I think it's a matter of time - but I'm really hoping that I'm very wrong in that regard!

Before..

After..

I think this packaging was from a cell phone protective cover. Why would this be put here?.. wild.

Before..

After..

The weathered bits & pieces are usually quite challenging to collect. It just breaks into smaller ones. It's staisfying though, when the scene gets returned back to its natural state.

Our colourful problem..

Solution in black & white!

I emptied the rubbish in the nearby municipal dustbin. It was awesome to see that everything I had placed in there previously had been collected! That means this system appears to be working! That's pretty cool. Overall, another productive walk. The area which I'm focusing on currently requires lots more attention. Looking forward to continue making a difference.

Final thoughts..

Oh yes, bout that special piece of vegetation. On my way home, I couldn't resist taking a picture of this awesome looking succulent plant. I'm not exactly an expert in this field by any stretch of the imagination.. but I'm 99.9% certain that this is a 'spekboom'. With regards to 'Portulacaria Afra' (which I'm fairly certain this is).. well I know on that specific type of plant, the leaves are in fact edible. There are people who use spekboom for all kinds of medicinal purposes too. Apparently it helps to fight climate change and air pollution. It's really easy to grow, so all the good stuff as you can tell! There's actually one (confirmed spekboom) where I stay - which is why I'm pretty certain this one is as well (I'm just not comfortable in testing my theory out haha). The reason being is that there is also similar looking plant out there (but yeah, I don't think this is that). In a nutshell.. if it's a true spekboom, then it's a legend in the plant space.

Till next time,

ma3str0

That succulent's massive. I mean, it's whatever kind you said it was, it's just big.

Well lol.. they can get quite sizeable, though this one still has a long way to go. From what I can see, they appear to grow quite slowly, but at the same time are very hardy - requiring little in the way of water. #incredible

Nice little park about a 1/2 mile from the house I take Atlas to regularly. Big open field, things to jump, a creek, private, dude it's dope.

Went there yesterday and I don't wtf but there was garbage everywhere. There's never garbage there, I thought for a long time I was the only one who knew of the hidden gem. Fortunately, there was a bag, too.

I picked it up. Didn't even have gloves.

My point is, I don't know how you do it. With each retrieval, I was inches away from being reassigned to anger management.

That's so dope mate! Brilliant stuff haha! You did awesome! I find that a glove helps a lot! And then at the end of the adventure, I run straight to wash my hands as well. Can't be too careful with those germs. I also get upset with the nasty ones.. I've had a couple of really hectic ones.. like reeeeeaally disgusting. Anyway, this one is all bout you my friend. You are a #legend!
