About the Quote

Even solo performing artists can't put out the hits without help from others. Phil Collins was the drummer for the band Genesis during the 1970s, but when he became a solo performer in the 1980s she still needed a band for his performances. He needed the assist from other professional artists in order to perform his craft.

Scorers of all kinds-- Pele in futbol, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James in baseketball, Wayne Gretzky in hockey, just to name a few-- needed to be fed the object by a teammate before they could put points on the board.

As great as these leading scorers were when they played, they needed help from their teammates to be in positions to scorer. That's why in hockey an assist has equal value to a goal (1 point each). A scorer is nothing without the playmaker providing the assist.
