Trying Out A New Bow With My Brother

Greetings, Strangers!

I am thinking of a certain Iron Maiden song.

Ta-da-da-da-da-da-daaa, ta-da-da-da-da-da-daaa...

Last week I wrote about me getting my makeshift archery range up to Lvl 2, which means, I was kind of able to make it lasting. A bit weather resistant so that I might leave it as it is between sessions.

Today, we almost destroyed it, me and my brother. He's gt almost no experience and I felt like giving him his first lesson...for the third time in the last four or five years. Anyway.

I gave him a new bow recently and we were both eager to test it when we met (and could spare an hour or so together with the kids elsewhere and all).

Here be the bow's body.

Looks like a Ferrari to me.

But compared to my wife's bow and, more specifically, its accuracy, it shoots a bit off the main vertical axis. A bit to the right. We use no sights, though, so it might be just our technique being not yet adjusted to the new bow's characteristics.

It comes with some trial and error.

And, here's where I failed — I planned on making a lot more pictures but we had some problems with the first shots being buried deep into the wooden shield, and also us being already hungry and in a bit of hurry to leave relatively soon.

So the worst part was not documented. Here's one of the series after The Big Wood-Burried-Arrows Disaster, A.K.A. TBWBAD.

And then me taking a final revenge with my wife's bow again but shooting in a relatively quick succession.

Now, do you see the green notch bottom center?

It remained there since TBWBAD. It was too deep for us to try and pull out before we were done with everything else, so it stayed a while.

The session was a success, meaning we did it at all in the first place, and we neither destroyed, nor lost any arrows, in the second.

Also, we learned something about the behaviorr of the two bows and the three types of carbon body arrows. Three types of arrows in terms of length and weight, three types of behavior.

If you want to practice and aim for consistent results, then don't mix.

Me...I am not aiming that high.

Peace!

M.
