I just finished a 6.774km running that lasted about 0hh:34mm:16ss !

Well, I've been postponing this first run for quite a while now. Last month, when the foot specialist told me that it shouldn't be a problem to resume running and other activities, in spite of the small pain I still had on my ankle, I thought that was exactly what I was going to do. But I guess I was more anxious than I thought. Let's be honest, cycling usually feels easy: even after months without a bike ride, I can just pick it up and go for a couple hours, no problem. But running is a whole different story. I guess that's why after almost 3 months without a single run, I was quite worried and didn't know what to expect. But with a perfect weather, sunny without a cloud in the sky, and cool temperature (for June in Michigan at least), I couldn't skip it one more time.

And so around mid-afternoon, I finally started my run. No distance or pace target, I just knew I obviously needed to start slower than I used to three months ago. In the end , it's a little over 4 miles in about 34 minutes. My heart rate was super high, my cadence was super low, and I'm guessing most metrics were shite! But I'm happy with that, and most importantly the fact my ankle didn't bother me. Well, it's not entirely true: right now, about 24 hours after the run, I can feel something is not 100% but it's nothing that would prevent me from doing any activity, so it's good. And I have a follow up appointment with the foot specialist this week, so I can ask bout it. That's also one of the reasons I really wanted to go for a test run this week end, and hopefully one or two more before my appointment. Also, I am very sore everywhere, so the ankle pain might just be that as well. Definitely in need of some more practice.

I've never really followed closely any training plan, I just go for a run or ride when I feel like it. But since I am trying to resume a more systematic training, I want to at least set targets for the next few months. I will start with 100 miles biking and 100k running. That's most likely not going to happen in June, I started to late, but I'll start a counter anyways based on Strava data:

  • Biking: 8.53 miles
  • Running: 4.21 miles

Alright, I'm off to a bike ride now before the night sets in, have a great week and keep Exhausting!

Great to read your back running, I often add walk breaks into my runs if need when building back up too.

Thanks, it does feel good to resume training, but also painful !lolz
Yeah, I see many people adding breaks to get more distance at the beginning, but I also walk several miles a day with the dogs, so I usually try to keep the runs simple, just shorter if needed.
