But at least your hands should be well cared for after the washing - I remember my aunts talking about that because of the wool's lanolin.

Yes, the lanolin is great for your hands. But the fleeces I have are very dirty with poop and such and I am wearing gloves to prep it. The washing is done in very hot water and for that, I have to wear gloves to stand the heat :) But if I work with wool that still has some lanolin in it, it is great for the hands :)

Cool! What are you going to do with it? Spin it? Last time I washed a whole load of wool it was winter and I had it draped over radiators.

I am experimenting. Learning to skirt it well, see which method of washing works best and such. I do want to do a bunch of wet felting and also spinning. I am a beginner in all of that.
A lot of the wool might end up as plant food - which is a good purpose as well :)
We have Navajo friends with sheep. They are all mixed and the wool is pretty dirty when I get it from them. But a good way to experiment and they get some for it instead of having to throw it away...
