It is wool right off a sheep. I don't think natural dyes work with synthetic yarns. But they work well with protein fibers - sheep, goat (mohair), alpaca, rabbit (angora) and so on.
Some of the plants, I planted on purpose and I will collect whatever I can find.
And onions - we eat and I save the skins. They make a great color :)

@mariannewest Wow, I did not know till today that even a common man can prepare natural colours, and they come out of some trees. Yes, I also know a tree Tesu / Palash, which we used to soak in lukewarm water at night and leave it overnight and the next day plays Holi with coloured water, this colour was considered good for our health. On the festival of Holi, colours are applied to each other in our country.

that sounds like an interesting tree. Maybe some day, you can show us some photos of the preparation and the festival.
