Habiendo finalizado la última fecha FIFA los aires de mundial ya se empiezan a sentir. Solo mes y medio nos separan de la competición que apasiona a todo el planeta y nos hace vivir momentos fantásticos y una mezcla de emociones indescriptible. Por tal motivo, es momento de conocer las 5 selecciones candidatas a llevarse la Copa del Mundo Qatar 2022. (El top realizado es en base a mí criterio personal)

Sin duda alguna este mundial va a ser sumamente especial, puesto que será la última edición en la que 32 selecciones participan en el certamen, debido al cambio de formato impuesto por la FIFA para el mundial de México y Estados Unidos 2026, que albergará 48 equipos en su fase final. Sumado a esto, es primera vez que un mundial se juega a mitad de temporada, cosa que genera una intriga enorme acerca del rendimiento de los equipos. Además, podría ser la última vez que veamos en acción es este tipo de torneo a las estrellas más grande de las 2 últimas décadas, Lionel Messi y Cristiano Ronaldo.

For this reason, it is time to know the 5 candidate teams to win the World Cup Qatar 2022 (The top is based on my personal criteria).

Undoubtedly, this World Cup will be extremely special, since it will be the last edition in which 32 teams will participate in the competition, due to the change of format imposed by FIFA for the 2026 World Cup in Mexico and the United States, which will host 48 teams in its final phase. In addition, this is the first time that a World Cup will be played in the middle of the season, which generates enormous intrigue about the performance of the teams. In addition, it could be the last time we see the biggest stars of the last two decades, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, in action in this type of tournament.

Aquí vamos con los candidatos:

1 Francia.

No cabe duda que la actual campeona del mundo tiene todo el peso de la competición en sus hombros. El plantel de la selección gala es algo maravilloso, ya que cuenta con jugadores élites en cada una de sus líneas. Francia conforma el Grupo D junto a Dinamarca, Túnez y Australia quienes a priori no deberían presentar mayor dificultad para una plantilla de este calibre. En esta edición los dirigidos por Didier Deschamps buscarán romper la maldición del campeón que viene azotando a los últimos ganadores de la copa desde el año 2010, siendo cada uno de ellos eliminados en la fase de grupos (Italia 2010, España 2014, Alemania 2018).

El combinado francés representa una amalgama perfecta de experiencia y juventud. No sólo mantiene la base de jugadores que la hicieron campeona del mundo en Rusia, sino que suma a quien es posiblemente el mejor jugador del mundo en el último año, el ariete del Real Madrid Karim Benzema. Además, el excelente estado de forma de Ousmane Dembélé y Kyliam Mbappe hace de su ataque una auténtica locura.

Francia clasificó a la copa del mundo de Qatar fácilmente como primera de su grupo, sumando 18 puntos y quedando invicta con récord positivo de 5 victorias y 3 empates. Esta selección cuenta con todo lo que un equipo debe tener para aspirar a conseguir el título de campeón del mundo, un arquero experimentado, Defensa sólida, un medicampo completo y un ataque contundente. Por tal motivo es considerada la máxima favorita.

2 Brasil.

Es imposible hacer una lista de candidatos para ganar un mundial sin nombrar a la pentacampeona del mundo. Luego de pasar varios años a la sombra de las grandes selecciones, parece que Brasil ha encontrado con Tite la magia que había perdido hace unos años. Comandados por un Neymar Jr que parece haber encontrado su mejor versión en este nuevo inicio de temporada con el PSG, la verde-amarela se posiciona como una firme candidata a llevarse la presea dorada.

Como es habitual la mayor virtud del combinado carioca es su ataque, ya que posee un arsenal de jugadores ofensivos que no solo destacan por su habilidad sino por su gran momento actual en cada uno de sus clubes. Tal es el caso de Vinicius Jr, quien desde la temporada anterior viene siendo uno de los pilares del Real Madrid y su éxito reciente en Europa. Además, jugadores como Raphinha, Richarlison, Firmino, Antony y Gabriel Jesús también forman parte de esta temible delantera.

Si algo no le falta a esta selección es experiencia. Después del rotundo fracaso ante el combinado belga en la copa del mundo de rusia, la canarinha fortaleció su escuadra y fue capaz de obtener un campeonato y un subcampeonato de “Copa América”, una medalla de oro de los juegos olímpicos y clasificar como primera en la tabla general de CONMEBOL.

Brasil lidera el grupo g acompañado por las selecciones de Camerún, Suiza y Serbia. Se espera mucho de los dirigidos por Tite en esta competición ya que históricamente es la única selección del planeta que ve como fracaso no salir campeón de cada torneo que disputa. Desde el 2002 no pisa una final de copa del mundo y aún quedan algunas cicatrices del 7 a 1 vs Alemania en casa. De acuerdo a su buen juego y profundidad de plantel, este podría ser el año de la redención para el gigante sudamericano.

3 Argentina.

Hacía muchas ediciones que no veíamos una selección argentina llegar tan firme a una copa del mundo. Incluso cuando fueron sub-campeones en la edición de Brasil 2014 era un equipo que no aparecía entre los claros favoritos a llevarse el torneo. Ahora mismo, Argentina luce como un verdadero equipo, y no como un conjunto de individualidades considerables como lo fue en años anteriores. Los actuales campeones de América tienen una de las selecciones más sólidas de este certamen y lo certifican sus ¡35 partidos invictos! Desde el año 2019.

Dirigidos por Linonel Scaloni y Capitaneados por Lionel Messi el sueño albiceleste de consagrarse campeones del mundo después de más de 4 décadas parece muy posible en este 2022. Si bien Messi, el astro del PSG y máxima figura de la selección llega a esta copa con 35 años de edad, no luce lejos de su mejor versión. Por primera vez en su carrera vemos a un Messi disfrutar de Argentina y todo un país confía en que el 10 pueda llevarlos a la gloria.

La Albiceleste llega al mundial como segunda en la tabla general de CONMEBOL y conforma el Grupo C junto a Arabia Saudita, Polonia y México; un grupo para nada fácil pero aun así tiene a argentina como candidata al primer puesto. Aunque este equipo no posee la cantidad de cracks y superestrellas que Brasil y Francia, no tiene nada que envidiarles en cuanto a funcionamiento, ya que tiene una idea muy clara de su juego y tiene jugadores con una entrega total por el equipo.

Led by Linonel Scaloni and captained by Lionel Messi, the Albiceleste dream of becoming world champions after more than 4 decades seems very possible in 2022. Although Messi, the PSG star and top figure of the national team arrives at this cup at the age of 35, he does not look far from his best version. For the first time in his career we see a Messi enjoying Argentina and a whole country is confident that the 10 can lead them to glory.

The Albiceleste arrives at the World Cup as second in the overall table of CONMEBOL and forms Group C along with Saudi Arabia, Poland and Mexico; a group that is not easy at all but still has Argentina as a candidate for the first place. Although this team does not have as many cracks and superstars as Brazil and France, it has nothing to envy them in terms of performance, as it has a very clear idea of its game and has players with a total commitment to the team.

4 Portugal.

Si hablamos de planteles amplios, la selección portuguesa tiene uno de los equipos más completos del mundo. Durante los últimos 4 años ha sido masiva la cantidad de jugadores portugueses que han dado el salto a la élite del fútbol mundial y han destacado como figuras en cada uno de sus clubes. De esta manera, solo basta repasar alguno de los nombres que tiene esta selección en su haber para darse cuenta que es clara favorita al título. Entre ellos destacan Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernández, Diogo Jota, Joao Félix, Rafael Leao, Rubén Díaz, Joao Cancelo y por supuesto Cristiano Ronaldo.

Por otra parte, a diferencia de las otras candidatas, Portugal forma parte del que puede ser el grupo más fuerte de la copa, junto con el E (España, Alemania, Japón y Costa Rica). La selección lusa se enfrentará a Uruguay, Ghana y Corea del Sur; en donde un mínimo resbalón podría significar su eliminación y el fin del sueño portugués. A pesar de ello, Portugal confía en su gran juego ofensivo y domino del mediocampo para salir adelante y hacerse con el liderato del grupo.

Un dato curioso es que, si tanto Argentina como Portugal avanzan como primeras de grupo, ambas se posicionarían en llaves diferentes, dejando abierta la posibilidad de una final Messi vs Cristiano en la última copa de cada uno. Un escenario que de ocurrir estoy seguro que detendría al mundo deportivo por completo.

If we talk about large squads, the Portuguese national team has one of the most complete teams in the world. During the last 4 years, a massive number of Portuguese players have made the leap to the elite of world soccer and have stood out as stars in each of their clubs. Thus, it is enough to review some of the names that this national team has to its credit to realize that it is a clear favorite for the title. Among them are Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandez, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix, Rafael Leao, Ruben Diaz, Joao Cancelo and of course Cristiano Ronaldo.

On the other hand, unlike the other candidates, Portugal is part of what may be the strongest group of the cup, along with E (Spain, Germany, Japan and Costa Rica). The Portuguese team will face Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea; where the slightest slip could mean their elimination and the end of the Portuguese dream. In spite of this, Portugal will rely on its great offensive play and midfield dominance to come out on top of the group.

A curious fact is that, if both Argentina and Portugal advance as group winners, both would be placed in different brackets, leaving open the possibility of a final Messi vs Cristiano in the last cup of each one. A scenario that, if it were to happen, I am sure would bring the sports world to a complete halt.

5 Inglaterra.

Es difícil dejar fuera de un top de selecciones favoritas a un mundial a equipos como España y Alemania, pero actualmente veo a la selección inglesa como una firme candidata a levantar el trofeo de campeón en Qatar. Actuales subcampeones de Europa y 4to lugar en Rusia 2018, los dirigidos por Gareth Southgate vienen de un proceso largo de trabajo en el que han formado un equipo confiable y muy esperanzador para sus aficionados.

Inglaterra logró su pase al mundial con gran facilidad sumando 26 puntos y quedando invicta en la eliminatoria europea. Su prominente juego vertical y ataque por las bandas hace de esta selección un peligro para una de sus rivales. Si logran concretar una solidez defensiva, sumado a su gran poderío de mediocampo para arriba, los ingleses podrían fácilmente llegar a la fase final de la copa.

En cuanto a plantel Inglaterra es equiparable o incluso para algunos superior, a varios de los equipos de este top. Esta selección comparte el Grupo B con Irán, Estados Unidos y Gales, en donde se espera que clasifique fácilmente como primera de grupo. A pesar de su gran equipo y que viene teniendo muy buenos resultados no debe pasar desapercibido que no es primera vez que Inglaterra llega a la copa con un equipo de esta magnitud. En cada edición del mundial los ingleses figuran como uno de los conjuntos más fuertes pero la mayoría de las oportunidades no han tenido el resultado deseado. ¿Será este año la excepción?

A parte de estás 5 selecciones quiero destacar a dos equipos que en mi opinión tendrán una muy buena participación y los son Senegal y Uruguay. Veo mucho potencial en ambas escuadras tanto por el grupo de jugadores que tienen como por el proceso que vienen realizando. Ambos equipos poseen jugadores de talla mundial que acompañados de un buen funcionamiento colectivo pueden ser un dolor de cabeza para más de uno en esta competición. OJITO CON SENEGAL Y URUGUAY.

Apart from these 5 teams, I would like to highlight two teams that in my opinion will have a very good participation: Senegal and Uruguay. I see a lot of potential in both squads both for the group of players they have and for the process they are going through.
