My Actifit Report Card: October 21 2025

The bearded vulture is a unique bird whose diet consists mainly of bones. Like most birds, they are not interested in meat or the soft parts of animals. Instead, they find bones and swallow them whole. This is quite surprising, because bones are hard and difficult to chew, but the bearded vulture has adapted to this unusual diet.
An interesting fact about bearded vultures is that their stomach acid is incredibly strong—stronger than battery acid. This strong acid helps them digest the bones they eat. Once the bones reach their stomachs, the acid begins to dissolve them, which enables the vultures to extract the nutrients they need to survive. This ability to eat bones gives them an advantage, as it allows them to find food that many other animals cannot eat.
Bearded vultures also play an important role in their ecosystem. By eating bones, they help keep the environment clean, prevent bone buildup, and help return nutrients to the soil.
