Champions

Yes! It was the 2021-2022 REAL UCL campaign story all over again; looking unlikely to be Victors but doing it inspite. And I'm sorry if I make this final ALL ABOUT MADRID but that's just what it is.

The spanish team from Bernabeu came into the game riding on the back of some famous victories over PSG, Man City and Chelsea. In all these games, it looked like it was all over from the onset but Real somehow were able to turn on the heat and cook us some fairytale.

And It goes without saying that their Opponents in the final, Liverpool, were not going to be walkovers. And Everyone were expecting another Champions league drama from the 13-time champions. And on the night, we can say they played to the gallery.

Liverpool came into the game after watching their hopes for a season's quadruple Vanquished by the CITIZENS on the final day of the Epl. However the hope for a treble was very much alive, they themselves having had a great Champions league campaign thus far. And in a way they were favorites to win( I personally tipped them to win).

The Tension for such a big night as the UCL final was visible in the atmosphere around the stadium as the organizers didn't keep to the official kick-off time as there were issues involving fans entry into the stadium( although there seem to be discripancies between the narratives of UEFA and the fans present). The delay lasted for about 37mins before the match began.

With the game started, Liverpool didn't waste time to show intent with a couple of brilliant efforts from Liverpool forwards. Mane coming closest as his effort was palmed to the post by Thibaut Courtois. And for Mane it was Nostalgia of 2018 finals where he hit the Bar.
Liverpool dominated the game for most part of the 1st half of the game but couldn't get a goal and were given a scare when Madrid's lethal striker decided to pick up from where he left off in his short fiction and put the ball in the back of the net in the net. But Liverpool could breathe a sigh of relief when the goal was ruled out after a VAR check for a controversial offside.

Liverpool were looking as the side to break the deadlock but they couldn't just bury this Madrid side. With Thibaut Courtois pulling off incredible saves to deny them on many Occasions.
But in the time of truth, it was Vinicious Jnr. Who brought the Madrid fans to their feet after tapping into the liverpool net a fine ball crossed in by Valverde.
From here on, Liverpool were chasing a comeback that was never there.
Thibaut Courtois did not only keep the goals out but also kept his team in front till the final whistle.

It was also a night for the history books. "Don Carlo" became the first manager to win the UCL trophy 4 times, Thibaut Courtois became the goalkeeper to record most saves in a single UCL campaign and also in a UCL final, Vinicious Jnr. became the 2nd youngest South American, after Messi, to score in a UCL final. And Madrid extended their record of being the highest winners of the tournament, from 13 to 14 UCL trophies in total.

In the end Mo Salah and liverpool would have to wait for chance to present it self again for them to settle scores with Real Madrid. For real, it's 2 wins in 2 finals over the Reds.
