Arsenal's Season : Success or Failure?

Let's face it here, when this season started no one could've predicted Arsenal will still be in with a title shout by May. As a matter of fact, no one gave them a chance to make the top three not to talk of being the main challenger to that winning machine residing on the blue side of Manchester. Most sports pundits predicted Arsenal's best chance will be the fourth position, some even omitted them from the top 4 picture completely.

The season has gone quickly and we are definitely at the tail end of it now. Manchester City will be crowned EPL champion again. Newcastle will qualify for the Champions League for the first time since God knows when, Chelsea will finish outside the top 10 despite spending more money than some leagues, Liverpool will play Europa League next season (whether they like it or not). The only unknowns right now are the two teams that will follow Southampton to the Championship and whether Spurs will play in Europe next season or not.

So, is Arsenal's season a successful one or not? As far as I'm concerned, Arsenal's season has been a successful one though a lot of people will disagree. I'm making this conclusion based on the team goals they started the season with. I'm 99.9% sure the season objective would've been to qualify for the Champions League after being away from the prestigious competition for about six years. Did they achieve that objective? Hell, yeah, they did. Understandably, the objective changed when they went eight points clear at the top, what they achieved can't be understated; Arsenal grew faster than anticipated.

The Premier League is such a crazily bizarre league. The only constant when starting a season is the fact that Manchester City are the strong favourites. Other than that, nothing remains the same. Liverpool pushed City till the last day of the last campaign. This season, they've fallen way off. Chelsea? From 3rd to 11th, there is no simple explanation to that massive flop. Considering this haphazard nature of the league, it's understandable Arsenal fans feel incredibly disappointed after missing out on such a good opportunity. The big question now is, will Arsenal compete strongly like they did now next season?

The easiest answer to that will be a yes, of course, but caution has to be taken. Liverpool already had six wins in a row. Man United looks exhausted towards the end but they have enough money to add extra quality in the summer. Those two will probably improve to make the competition stiffer. As for Chelsea and Spurs, their case is in the hands of God - no comment! Even though Arsenal suffered a late heartbreak to relinquish the title they desperately desire, that doesn't nullify the fact that they've had an absolutely amazing, unexpected season.

They now have the template for success. Let's see if they'll build on it or will return to their mediocre ways of solving football problems.

Hi, thanks.
Would be a stronger Arsenal side next season, with the new coach to resume in the summer, the cash injection, some players already signed, resuming in the summer and that Arteta is a quick learner.

Cheers man

I hope so. I loved the way that team played this season. With a clear pattern, Arteta only have to get the exact players he needs to plug the gaping holes left and close the gap.

My interest has always been to have a very strong league, not one dominated by an overlord. Hopefully, Liverpool and United will join Arsenal and City to make it a four-way battle for the title next season.

Thanks for stopping by.

My pleasure.

Yup mine is beyond hope for Arsenal, there's an attitude to work, to statistical data, plus those things I mentioned above, that gives me assurance.
On Liverpool and Man U, they have great coaches, which is crucial. As for Liverpool, mental fatigue(especially),injuries and a bit of deadwood, were their problems. You can see they will be ruthless in their spending this summer, deadwoods are already been shipped out and mentally that freshness is returning.

United will be United in their spending, so there's every reason why they should improve.

I say that, continuity is the bane of many clubs and I think big clubs, in the last one or two years, are beginning to learn that. See if Solksjaer had stayed on till now, he would have been doing quite like Arteta. Infact he was doing better than Arteta when he was around, the problem was the sudden Ronaldo inquisition that summer. Not that Ronaldo is a bad player, but good coaches(and great clubs) plan things well ahead of time( that is why Arsenal has signed a coach, months back, who would resume this summer).

Solksjaer only had a plan for Sancho, which the club bought and ofcourse the dressing room had foreknowledge of what to expect in the summer( Ronaldo wasn't on the list). The coming of Ronaldo, unsettled things, especially the spirit of the dressing. Solksjaer danced to the tune of the club on Ronaldo and to his credit, he did try to fit in Ronaldo at all cost, but ofcourse it didn't work, it wasn't in the original plan.

What am I saying? It's nice to see the Klopps, Ten Hags continue their projects. I expect it to be a four-way battle, at the top too.

Cheers

I reminded a dude last Saturday that Man United came second only to City before Ronaldo showed up out of the blues. All Solksjær requested for was a right winger and a central defender, which he got in Sancho and Varane. Suddenly, Woodward went mad, got tricked by Jorge Mendes and signed a guy that wasn't needed. We all saw how it ended.

I can only hope Ten Hag will be persistent enough to get the exact players he needs for his system. That's the first stepping stone to success, getting the exact tools. I believe United would've probably had a better season if they got Frenkie de Jong instead of Erikson.

As for Arsenal, I will watch their progress next season. I just hope this last minute failure won't break the spirit of those young dudes.

Oh twas even second? That tells the story much better! Yeah and Verane,I was focusing only on the attack.

Yeah probably on Frenkie. Frenkie was very willing to work with his dear former coach, but there's something called a dream home– he just couldn't resist the allure of staying in a club, that is a club of his dreams.
@deniskj so your radar hasn't located this discourse on your dear club?🙂

So yeah, I hope the best for Ten Hag, now he has a more relaxed atmosphere to plan, unlike the last summer.

Nice insights you give.

Cheers

I agree with @mckane's sentiments on United, although he is a bit diplomatic on Arsenal's pathetic collapse.

I always said, Ronaldo was a terrible signing. He destabilized everything that Ole had built. We really needed a CDM and if we got a Casemiro, I just wonder how much better we would have been.

I am just hoping Qatar's bid wins. Ten Hag will have the resources, facilities and support he needs to actually compete with City. He has worked wonders already with the shells he received from that caretaker manager that shall not be named.

Though Arsenal collapsed, I think they can look back at this season after all the disappointment and give themselves some credit. They really deserve one. Needless to say, Ferguson's Man United once thrown away an eight point lead with just eight games to go. They regrouped the following season and won the league. I hope to see Arsenal competing for the top next season.

As for the Qatar's bid, those Glazer leeches are not willing to relinquish control of the club. They either milk it dry or sell it an exorbitant price. That's probably the reason why Ratcliffe is their favourite for the deal. And that's why the Qatar dude had to submit another improved bid despite the others not doing so.

Arsenal's Season : Success or Failure?

In my opinion, their success is their aggression, winning mentality, and their confidence. They can't win the title this year, but they will play in UCL next season :-)

That's exactly my point. Though they've been derided for blowing out what looked like a sure opportunity, they elevated their status in return. With Champions League football, they can afford to buy better players than the ones they have right now and compete for the league once again.

I have seen several plays from Manchester, I hope that everything flows perfectly for this next season.
