Desde el otro lado del asfalto.

And this time I'm not at the starting line. In this race, I'm on the other side of the finish line, keeping track of every detail of the start and the logistics of the runners and walkers in the first edition of the Santa Rosa 10K. What a joy it is to be part of the organising committee for this race. My day began at 3:00 a.m., even earlier than when I compete. How about that? But anyway, from here I realise the tremendous responsibility that race organisers have, and I appreciate even more the work they do to guarantee runners a good service. As a family of runners, my husband, my daughter, and I arrived at the starting point to begin setting up the stage with all the equipment for the race.

We were extremely nervous, because it takes an army to manage so many things, and relying on God and our own efforts without counting the time or fatigue so that everything would turn out well, what a magnitude of work is involved in organising races. We were two teams of runners who live in the city and got together to organise this race, and even with that, we couldn't cope. Thank God 6:00 am arrived, and the runners began to arrive, and we had almost everything ready: the starting arch, hydration, fruit, security personnel, ambulances. The pre-race warm-up began, led by a very experienced trainer, who gave a very complete warm-up, which was key to getting started. I had the great pleasure of accompanying him on stage, so I could get a feel for future races, as I enjoy training other people and instructing them in the subject.

As this race was in honour of the patron saint of my city, Santa Rosa, after the warm-up, the priest gave his blessing, and we all headed to the starting line to begin the race right on time. One of the things we were most concerned about was that the race would not start on time, as our reputation as organisers depended on it, but thank God everything went according to plan, and the race started at 7:00 am, as punctual as the prestigious races in my country. And the starting signal was given. How exciting it was to see the fruit of many days of hard work, sacrifices, discussions, falls, late nights, rejections—the moment we had imagined and planned for so much was now a reality. It is truly satisfying to achieve your goals, after so much effort, recreating them on paper and in your mind.

And from the moment the runners set off, the other big part of the job began, between hydration, timing, medal presentation, refreshments, then prize giving, it felt like I had already run my first marathon, my legs couldn't take any more. But I was very happy to be there at the finish line and see the faces of each of the runners as they arrived, happy to have reached the finish line, a satisfaction that is worth a thousand sacrifices. I was happy to take on a challenge and step out of my comfort zone of just going to the race and leaving, to be there in the organisation of a race from day zero to the end.

And from another point of view, I continue to enjoy my passion, valuing each stage of a race even more, getting more involved, which takes me to another level.
Hasta la próxima amigos.
