Greetings friends
Warm greetings and happy 2026 to all runners! Let's keep racking up the kilometres together and sharing many races, experiences that unite and strengthen us as a group. Today I am resuming my training with my first route of 2026 after a break to celebrate with my family. It is very important to balance our family commitments with our training, as this makes us more productive. It's all about planning. This year, we are resuming training early without many days off because we are already close to the most important race in the country, CAF 2026. I am very excited to run this race for the second time. To resume training in the new year, we did not run as many kilometres, but we did work on strength as we did my favourite hill route, which I remember when I climbed it for the first time and how hard it was.
My husband and I did not leave as early as we usually do for training because it is getting light very late, and there are still many people out on the streets at dawn, so we have to be very careful. Thankfully, the weather was good on the route. I climbed the 5 kilometres checking my pace and heart rate. Now, with my watch, I have more control over this, and when my heart rate rises above 155 bpm, I breathe deeply and control my pace. For the first 5 kilometres, I maintained an average pace of 6:15 min/km. We stopped at the 5 km mark, hydrated, and began the descent. Here I did a series of pace changes to get even more out of the training. In total, I ran 10.81 kilometres at an average pace of 6:36 min/km, with an average heart rate of 146 bpm. According to the app, I worked 52% in zone 4. Well, here I am, continuing to align myself with my training zones. I started my training on the right foot as I felt good. We continue training for the 2026 CAF marathon, getting closer and closer to the big day.
