My Actifit Report Card: May 3 2025 - A Birthday Filled with Surprises

Against my first low-key schedule, this turned out to be a quite colorful birthday!

Birthdays aren't normally my most active days, but a last-minute change of plans meant my plan to skip to celebrating this year was wonderfully flipped around.

My day suddenly seemed full, and I even met my step target!

My birthday started with a great surprise: my friends showed up this morning carrying a beautiful breakfast tray.

Knowing I had been a bit down lately and had spent a lot of time in the hospital in Maastricht the past weeks, they considered it essential for me to start my special day with a strong meal.

My two boys led the way in appreciating the feast, and we ate every mouthful together.

Fortunately, the girlfriend of my eldest son was also there to assist in conquering the large basket; otherwise, it would have been an impossibility!

An appointment at the optician came second on the list.

It was time to pick up my youngest son's contact lenses; he would get instruction on how to put and take them, a somewhat delicate operation.

To my nice surprise, the glasses I had selected the week before were also ready.

I sipped a consoling cup of coffee and started to get used to the sensation of glasses resting on my nose while waiting for my son's training to end.

Although I wore reading glasses before, wearing them all the time was different.

I hope I'll pick them up quickly.

Anticipating my later visitors, we stopped briefly at the grocery store for drinks and snacks on our way home and the bakery for some great flan.

Oh, and I completely missed bringing up the wonderful gifts from my children!

My youngest son gave me a new laundry basket; my oldest son and his girlfriend gave me a restaurant coupon.

My old laundry basket had broken just a few days earlier, hence this gift was especially useful and thoughtful and most definitely made me grin.

Perhaps it's a Dutch or Limburgish culture, because at 3 p.m., it was coffee time—exactly on schedule—my birthday visitors arrived.

We began with coffee and the delectable flan, and the evening developed with cheese, baguettes, salads, and desserts among other pleasures.

Unlike what I had first anticipated, my birthday this year was thus everything but quiet.
