La primera llave de la eliminatoria se definió en el Emirates Stadium entre dos equipos que basan su juego en la táctica y el trabajo defensivo, dando el espectáculo que todos esperaban, dos juegos con pocas ocasiones, que se determinó en los pequeños detalles, muy alejado de la locura que vivimos la semana pasada entre el PSG y el Bayern Múnich. Esta fue la otra cara del juego, una que no todos los aficionados de este deporte valoramos tanto, pero como han dicho tantas otras personas en el pasado, las delanteras ganan partidos y las defensas campeonatos, y hoy el Arsenal es un merecido finalista de la Champions League.

Desde lo táctico, vimos muchas cosas en ambos equipos, pero quiero resaltar algo que ví en los minutos finales en el Atlético de Madrid, donde no supieron llevar el juego al área del Arsenal buscando un gol a la desesperada, que les permitiera ir al tiempo extra, y eso fue algo demasiado evidente. Contra el Barcelona el libreto fue muy claro, esperar a que adelantarán sus líneas y lanzar contragolpes rompiendo el fuera de juego, para luego resguardarse en su área, algo que ya ha llegado al Cholo a conseguir ciertos éxitos, pero cuando se le exige algo más, el equipo no tiene capacidad creadora de juego, pese a contar con varios futbolistas de gran nivel, y siento que allí es donde Simeone falla, pues aunque hay muchos automatismos defensivos, más allá de Julian Alvarez, los colchoneros dominan muy poco la faceta ofensiva y el tempo del juego.

Cuando los del Cholo entraban en dinámica defensiva, generando su típico autobús con 5 defensas y 4 mediocampistas, el Arsenal se centro en los carriles interiores donde se encontraban sus falsos laterales, lo que generaba espacios en los laterales ante la duda de la zona o el jugador que debían marcar.

Justamente bajo ese sistema de explotar los pasillos interiores fue que llegó el único tanto del juego, a través de Saka, es jugador más diferencial de los Gunners, quien justamente llegaba a esta eliminatoria tras superar unos problemas musculares, coincidiendo además con el peor momento del Arsenal por Premier League. Viendo la acción previa, Gyokeres gano la espalda de los centrales para tomar un pase profundo que recorrió esta zona, y ya plantado en el área, habilitó por la otra banda a Trossard, quien luego de varios amagues, sacó un disparo raso apenas repelido por Oblak, y para su mala suerte, el olfato goleador del canterano del Arsenal lo llevó a esa posición, donde solo tuvo que empujar el balón al ganarle la posición al defensa.

A la espera de que se resuelva el duelo de mañana, la que será probablemente la mejor llave de la historia de la Champions League, hay algo que se repetirá como el año pasado, pues habrán dos estilos de juego antagónicos, y quien consiga alzar el trofeo, podría generar un efecto domino en lo que vemos en los próximos años. Sea Bayern Múnich o PSG, su estilo ultraofensivo es una delicia de ver, pero sino consiguen títulos, pocos recordarán algo más allá de esa semifinal, y habrán más equipos como el Arsenal que busquen ganar desde la pizarra, por lo que aunque soy fanático de los Gunners, esta cara del equipo no me gusta, y en este momento no se si es mejor para el fútbol que pierdan, y más equipos se atrevan a jugar de forma más arriesgada y entretenida para los aficionados. Eso es algo que solo el tiempo lo dirá, pues hasta el mismo Arteta ha tenido que mutar su sistema, y ahora es finalista de la Champions League.

Whether it's Bayern Munich or PSG, their ultra-offensive style is a delight to watch, but if they don't win titles, few will remember anything beyond that semifinal. There will be more teams like Arsenal looking to win through tactical discipline. So, while I'm a Gunners fan, I don't like this side of the team, and at this point, I'm not sure if it's better for football if they lose, encouraging more teams to play a riskier and more entertaining style for the fans. Only time will tell, as even Arteta himself has had to adapt his system, and now he's a Champions League finalist.
Ya por último, y como una reflexión de factores que influyen en todos los partidos, más allá de entrenadores y jugadores, el arbitraje esta en su peor momento desde que tengo conciencia, y en este juego, lo volvieron a demostrar. Hubieron muchas polémicas, y pienso que ambos equipos estuvieron favorecidos en algunas decisiones, tal vez perjudicando más al Atlético, pero eso no quita que el resultado final del encuentro fue influenciado por el árbitro. Las dos jugadas en contra del Atlético fueron un par de penales no pitados, siendo la primera un agarrón leve de Gabriel para evitar un remate de Guiliano con el portero ya batido, la segunda, que me generó más dudas, un pisotón a Griezmann precedido de un choque de Pubill y Gabriel, que no estoy seguro si fue falta, y por las dudas, ignoraron el pisotón por la falta previa, mientras que los colchoneros se beneficieron al terminar los once en el césped, pues Pubill mereció ser expulsado por múltiples faltas donde se le perdonó la amarilla, aunque esto no es algo nuevo en un equipo vive de la fricción.
Finally, and as a reflection on the factors that influence every match, beyond coaches and players, the refereeing is at its worst point in my memory, and this game proved it once again. There were many controversial calls, and I think both teams benefited from some decisions, perhaps more so than Atlético, but that doesn't change the fact that the final result was influenced by the referee. The two plays against Atlético were a pair of uncalled penalties. The first was a slight tug by Gabriel to prevent a shot from Guiliano with the goalkeeper already beaten. The second, which raised more doubts for me, was a stamp on Griezmann preceded by a collision between Pubill and Gabriel. I'm not sure if it was a foul, and just to be safe, they ignored the stamp because of the previous foul. Meanwhile, Atlético benefited from finishing with all eleven players on the pitch, as Pubill deserved to be sent off for multiple fouls where he was spared a yellow card, although this isn't unusual for a team that thrives on physical play.
