Mindful Moments: September 23 2021

So today I started a 72 hour media detox as was suggested by @ericvancewalton in his book, Mindful Moments. "Media" includes social media as well as news media. Part of the process is to take note of how you're feeling and things that you notice during the detox period. I figure I will use my @actifit posts to do that since it does tie into health, and I plan on continuing to make my actifit posts during the detox period.

Here are some suggested questions from the book:

Are my mood, mindset, and worldview changing? How do I feel differently? Can I see others’ point of view more clearly? Am I communicating with others in a different way? Is my anxiety, and/or anger levels changing? Do I feel more rested when I wake up in the morning?

Well, at this point it has only been a half of a day, so I wouldn't have really expected much to change. One thing that I do notice is that I do feel more present. It's not only the time away from social media itself but the time thinking about it. Like I'm not really wondering what's going on in d.buzz or Twitter. I'm not going to lie though, I have had to stop myself a few times from trying to get on social media.

So I guess time is the biggest change so far and a little more present-ness. Overall, I feel like this is somehow easier than I thought it would be. I hope I hold true for the rest of the time.

Today I did over 12k steps. I'm hoping to start running again tomorrow.

Great work! It sounds like you’re already beginning to realize how habit-forming social media is. As you proceed try to be cognizant of how often you feel the urge to check your social media accounts and whether or not that urge lessens as you get further along in the detox.
