When A Sportsman Falls Sick ~ WE #181

My daughter Adaora has been preparing for her school's inter-house sports festival. She emerged as the house captain because she was said to be the best female footballer in her house. The Zircon House was lucky to have her. I have known her to be a hardwood. She would go the mile to do whatever is committed to her hands. What took me by surprise was the fact that she could play football.

Since the news broke out, I started giving more time to see that she trains quite frequently to be a master of her craft. In our world today, football is a lucrative career and it is worthy of a father to give full support to his ward to become better.

Two weeks before the grand finale of the sports events, all parents would be in attendance and other guests. I anticipated my daughter helping the Zircon House to win the event but she suddenly took sick.

From the medals table, the Zircon House was leading with ten gold, 12 silver, and 8 brass while Beryl House trailed in the second position with 7 gold, 10 silver, and 6 brass. All these medals were for the decided events.

Adaora woke up one morning, two days before the finale, and complained that her joints ached. Without much ado, we took her to the clinic where a medical test was carried out and she was diagnosed with malaria. When I first heard the result of the test, I couldn't believe it because we do not exposed our wards to mosquitoes.

Their bed space is covered with mosquito net. I just did not want to argue with the laboratory scientist. The result was taken to the doctor who recommended some injections. I quickly made some payments and the injections were administered.

When we got home, she slept all-day. It was at this moment that I knew that Adaora wouldn't be able to make it to the grand finale. At that moment, I just wanted her to stand on her feet again. Though the games were important, the life of my daughter is far more important.

Throughout that weekend I stayed at home to watch over her. The grand finale was held and the Zircon House still maintained her first position spot at the end of the festival.

When the news was brought, Adaora stood up from her sick bed as some of her House members brought the trophies they won to Adaora their House Captain.
That weekend was one of the few ones I won't forget in a jiffy. I am thankful to the medical doctor who recommended those drugs. Mosquitoes are a threat to many people living in terrestrial Africa. And malaria is one serious ailment that have claimed many lives.
