La selección de Gales regresa a un Mundial de Fútbol 64 años después

El día de hoy se completó la participación de UEFA para la cita mundialista que se llevará a cabo en Catar entre el mes de noviembre y diciembre, el encuentro final de este tercer playoff se enfrentaron las selecciones de Gales y Ucrania en el Cardiff City Stadium; recordemos que este encuentro se postergó por la lamentable situación bélica que todavía sufre la nación ucraniana y es por eso que la selección galesa debió esperar hasta dos meses para saber quién sería su rival en esta lucha por el último pasaje hacia Catar.

Este sin ninguna duda que esta "final" era un encuentro muy emotivo, primero la selección local está frente a una gran oportunidad de regresar a un mundial, la cual su última participación fue en 1958 en Suecia y en dónde quedaron eliminados en cuartos de final ante la selección de Brasil por un único gol anotado por un muy joven Pelé; segundo como he señalado en el párrafo anterior, la selección de Ucrania, todo el equipo quería dar una alegría en momentos tan difíciles que vive ese país desde la invasión que sufre por parte de Rusia desde hace meses que ha dejado perdidas irreparables; ambas razones pueden ser consideradas como importantes motivos para buscar una gran victoria o pueden crear gran presión que pueda afectar el desempeño de un equipo en las ganas de clasificar al mundial; sé que ambos motivos son diferentes, pero justamente no dejan de ser eso, motivos que influencian a jugadores y cuerpo técnico que quiere alcanzar un objetivo.

A pesar de las emociones e importancia que generaba este partido, ambos equipos jugaron con mucha cautela, tal vez uno con más inteligencia que otro aprovechando las emociones que sentía por ejemplo el seleccionado ucraniano; el equipo de Gales uso un esquema 3-4-3, encontré mientras veía el juego la importancia de los cuatro jugadores del centro que siempre estuvieron muy ordenados y compactos dando tranquilidad a su equipo, aunque por momentos eran superados por simples pases entre líneas que acercaban a los delanteros ucranianos a la arquería de Gales defendida por Wayne Hennessey, portero del Burnley que justamente perdió la categoría en la Premier League y descendió, pero en este importante encuentro fue vital para su selección dando un papel digno para estar en la máxima competición de fútbol en el mundo. Sobre la selección de Ucrania, pienso que el esquema 4-1-4-1 es muy balanceado, tiene un jugador delante de la defensa que conecta con los mediocampistas cubre un espacio si uno de los laterales sube al ataque, es algo que me gusta y sin hablar de las posibilidades en controlar el juego en el medio porque pueden ser 4, 5 o hasta seis en el medio campo, como dije, con este esquema se obtiene un gran balance en la defensa y ataque; ahora este plan es perfecto cuando los jugadores que deben ejecutarlo hacen un gran trabajo y lamentablemente para Ucrania, sirvió en una zona, pero en otra no y justamente en el ataque es dónde tener gran número de jugadores no significa que se conseguirán un gran número de goles porque para hacer eso hay que jugar bien, una circulación precisa, rápida y constante del balón, cosa que no hizo la selección de Ucrania que se vio sin pocas ideas y con un juego muy lento.

About the Ukrainian national team, I think that the 4-1-4-1 scheme is very balanced, it has a player in front of the defense that connects with the midfielders covering a space if one of the wingers goes up to the attack, is something I like and without talking about the possibilities in controlling the game in the middle because they can be 4, 5 or even six in the midfield, as I said, with this scheme you get a great balance in defense and attack; Now this plan is perfect when the players who have to execute it do a great job and unfortunately for Ukraine, it worked in one area, but not in another and it is precisely in the attack where having a large number of players does not mean that you will get a large number of goals because to do that you have to play well, a precise, fast and constant circulation of the ball, something that the Ukrainian team did not do, which was seen without few ideas and with a very slow game.

En lo que va de año hemos visto que en el fútbol las victorias las consigue el equipo que es más inteligente, podemos acusar la suerte o el gran trabajo de uno o dos jugadores de un equipo, pero al final el trabajo en conjunto, practicar un plan a la perfección y ser inteligente es una gran parte al éxito, después habrá la genialidad, la habilidad de jugadores que facilitarán la obtención de un resultado positivo y por supuesto, siempre deberá existir la suerte, un claro ejemplo de lo antes descrito es lo que práctico el Real Madrid en su obtención de su decimocuarta UCL; en este encuentro entre estas dos selecciones observé nuevamente a un equipo inteligente, uno que supo aprovechar momentos del juego, jugó como equipo, tuvo el gran desempeño de uno de sus jugadores y también tuvo el factor de la suerte, todo eso fue suficiente para que Gales sea la última selección europea en clasificar al mundial en Catar; pienso que Gales supo jugar con la obligación y presión que sintió la selección de Ucrania y por eso decidió esperar, defenderse, aprovechar tan solo un error, tener a un héroe inesperado, pero bienvenido como lo fue el portero Hennessey que sin ninguna duda para mí fue el más valioso del encuentro y por supuesto la suerte que en un tiro libre cobrado por el famoso Gareth Bale, que estaba controlado por el portero rival, aparezca Yarmolenko para anotar el único gol del encuentro, un gol en contra de su equipo y que dio una alegría a todo Gales que regresa a un mundial 64 años después.
