El Arsenal FC se convirtió en el primer finalista de la UEFA Champions League 2025-2026, al derrotar en la semifinal al Atlético de Madrid por un maracador global de 2 goles por 1. En una eliminatoria en donde la expectativa de los aficionados era de observar un enfrentamiento donde la defensa era lo primordial, es el equipo al cual se considera como el precursor (actualmente) en practicar un fútbol defensivo ya resultadista quien quedó fuera de una final por no cumplir con el rol del cual fue creado y, peor aún, no ofrecer una idea que pudiera revertir una situación en contra como la que sucedió el día de ayer. El equipo dirigido por Diego Simeone, a pesar de estar diseñado, planeado para mantener un sistema compacto y muy defensivo, al final falla porque esa idea principal no pudo mantenerse, primeramente por la desconcentración de sus jugadores y segundo por la deficiencia en su condición física, lo cual pienso que fue el factor relevante para quedar fuera de la gran final.

Recordemos que el Atleti se encuentra actualmente en la tercera posición de La Liga con más de 20 puntos de diferencia con el líder de dicha competición y pienso que esa diferencia llevó a Simeone a tener prioridades para la temporada y esas fueron tanto la final de la Copa del Rey y, por supuesto, la Champions League. Es por eso que El Cholo decidió dar descanso a muchos de sus titulares, una acción muy criticada, la cual les hizo recibir acusaciones de adulterar la competición local, pero según palabras del entrenador argentino, ese era el plan a seguir y nada, ni nadie le harían cambiar en esta importante fase de semifinal y más aún después de haber perdido la final de Copa del Rey, haciendo más que evidente que ese plan de hacer descansar a sus jugadores debería generar frutos, pero, como dije en el párrafo anterior, el equipo no estuvo a tope físicamente y eso les hizo ofrecer un desempeño bastante bajo a la exigencia del encuentro.

Al momento de ver los jugadores que formaron el equipo titular, era evidente que el plan de Simeone era aguantar el constante ataque del rival con la idea de esperar tanto el desgaste como la equivocación para tomar ventaja de cualquier favorable situación; en mi opinión, un plan acorde a la mentalidad e idea de su entrenador, pero para lograr eso, creo que necesitaba que su equipo fuera lo suficientemente apto para la exigencia física de presionar, correr y mantener esa intensidad por largo tiempo; lamentablemente para el Atleti, esa intensidad, concentración y demás en la mayoría de sus jugadores duró tan solo 40 minutos del encuentro porque la desconcentración defensiva y la poca intensidad defensiva de algunos de sus jugadores no estuvo acorde al planteamiento y al repetir errores de manera constante fue lo que los llevó a la derrota.

Creo que siempre en esta etapa final de la temporada se repiten las críticas hacia el accionar de Diego Simeone como líder del Atlético de Madrid y es que no hay ninguna duda de que es el gran culpable de que este sea su quinta temporada de manera consecutiva sin ganar ningún título. Existe un problema que este año se hizo más evidente y es sobre la prioridades del club, me refiero a que este equipo dependiendo en como se comporta tanto Barça como Real Madrid, es que lucha por el título en La Liga, así como sucede por Copa del Rey y ahora como sucede en la Champions League y si por alguna razón no tiene oportunidad de ganar nada, entonces te venden la idea que por lo menos se intentó y justamente eso no debería ser aceptable y este año debería generar más molestia porque creo que ese equipo tenía todo a favor para llegar a la final, no se si ganarla, pero si ser finalista y lamentablemente para su afición y algunos jugadores, no compitieron en el encuentro de vuelta, no estaban óptimos, la idea o mejor dicho "El Plan" de Simeone mató a sus jugadores más importantes en el ataque en menos de 60 minutos y lo peor fue depender de otros jugadores que están siendo tomados en cuenta en una etapa en donde ese equipo no se jugó absolutamente nada; creo que este debe ser el peor año de Simeone en ese equipo y debe ser necesario el cambio de cualquier plan para el Atleti.

Simeone’s idea—or rather, “The Plan”—wore out his most important attacking players in less than 60 minutes, and the worst part was having to rely on other players who are only being considered at a stage where that team had absolutely nothing at stake; I think this must be Simeone’s worst year with that team, and a change in strategy is necessary for Atleti.
