El pasado martes 17 de febrero, lamentablemente, el fútbol quedó en un segundo plano, ya que en el encuentro de ida entre Benfica y Real Madrid por el play-off de la UEFA Champions League, hubo un suceso en donde el jugador del Benfica, Gianluca Prestiani, supuestamente propinó insultos racistas hacia Vinicius JR., jugador del Real Madrid; ese hecho ocasionó que se activara el protocolo antiracista el cual no ofreció un resultado inmediato al no poder corroborar de que se realizó dicho insulto y eso conllevó a proseguir con el encuentro que una vez finalizado y como era de esperar, todo se enfocó en dar voz al afectado el cuál su club le supo porteger y fue sus compañeros quienes dieron no solo declaraciones de apoyo, sino aumentaron la denuncia al pasar a ser testigos del lamentable suceso; esto conllevó a que después de un erroneo planteamiento de UEFA con la activación del protocolo, solo había que esperar a la resolución de la investigación la cual a tan pocas horas de llevarse a cabo el encuentro de vuelta y sin la existencia de una prueba contundente, dictaminó un fallo en contra del acusado.

Debo repetir que, al no existir una imagen o audio que confirme la acusación contra Prestiani, posiblemente sería difícil que el jugador se perdiera tan relevante encuentro, pero debo decir que subestimé a UEFA en el modo de manejar esa situación. UEFA como era de esperar, abrió una severa investigación de los hechos, nombrando a un inspector de ética y disciplina que sin terminar la investigación y no tener pruebas verificas, decidió suspender de manera provisional a Prestiani por un encuentro, por el hecho de que posiblemente pudo violar el artículo 14 del Reglamento Disciplinario de UEFA en dónde se hace referencia a atacar a un compañero de profesión usando insultos racistas, sobre la orientación sexual y hasta religiosos; se que para muchos esto puede ser un acto que está fuera de orden, ya que como es notorio, no se puede probar de que existió o no un insulto racista o homofóbico, ya que como se ha visto en muchas imágenes, Prestiani se tapa la boca con la camiseta y, lamentablemente, esto se ha convertido en la acusación de primeramente un jugador hacia otro; es "mi palabra contra la tuya", aunque a la acusación realizada por Vinicius, se le sumó Mbappé el cual dice haber escuchado a Prestiani decir hasta 5 veces la palabra "Mono".

En mi opinión, la palabra de un alto representante y figura actual del fútbol mundial como Kylian Mbappé quien en declaraciones post partido dijo que Prestiani no puede jugar en el Bernabéu, que era imposible que ese jugador estuviera en uno de los estadios más importantes del mundo y sumando a esas palabras, la posible solicitud (esto es opinión personal) del Real Madrid, llevaron a que el jugador argentino no sea parte del encuentro de vuelta; nuevamente diré que entiendo en qué los poderosos rivales pidan la exclusión de un supuesto agresor, pero la decisión tomada hoy por UEFA, sin tener una prueba en contra el acusado, en vez de verse como un acto justo, es visto como doblegarse y aceptar la petición de un jugador y de su club, lo cual hace ver débil a la UEFA en su lucha contra el racismo.

Es lamentable que la UEFA no demuestre transparencia con todo este asunto porque, repito, posiblemente sea entendible la suspensión del jugador cuando existe una investigación, pero si eso es así, pregunto: ¿Por qué la UEFA no tomó esa decisión de la "Suspensión Provisional" desde un primer momento? ¿Por qué esperar tanto? Estás son las cosas que encuentro erróneas por parte de UEFA y no solamente con esta extraña y hasta conveniente decisión que para mí es para lavar la imagen de UEFA, ya que considero erroneo el protocolo antiracista el cual debiera ser inmediato, me explico, si un jugador acusa a otro de propinar insultos raciales, homofóbicos, sobre la religión de algún otro jugador, pues deberían ser sacado del encuentro y que de manera inmediata se proponga un grupo de investigación para resolver el caso y (como debe ser) dependiendo de las pruebas se tome una decisión final sobre el castigo que deberá sufrir el agresor; se que para muchos pueden pensar que siempre habrá una sobreprotección a la víctima, pero esto es lo normal, existe una persona a quien se le debe probar la agresión y existe otra, el agredido el cual se debe proteger y sin importar quien es, si es un jugador de tu preferencia o no, se debe respetar hasta el momento de culminar la investigación, el problema es el manejo de toda la situación el cual hace ver cómo culpable a alguien a quien por los momentos no se le puede probar que cometió una agresión y está es mi queja sobre todo lo sucedido, desde el momento en que se realizó el supuesto insulto, el comportamiento de los afectados, la prensa deportiva pero más aún, los entes futbolísticos. Espero que en algún momento se genere primeramente un estudio de todos los hechos, se concluya con una manera justa y resolutiva, lo cual genere un precedente sobre cómo debe ser el comportamiento de los jugadores en el campo de juego; creo que desde esa base se puede mejorar muchas otras cosas más.

Let me explain: if a player accuses another of making racial or homophobic insults about another player's religion, then they should be removed from the match and an investigation team should be immediately set up to resolve the case and (as it should be) depending on the evidence, a final decision should be made on the punishment to be imposed on the aggressor. I know that many may think that the victim will always be overprotected, but this is normal. There is one person who must be proven guilty of the offense and another, the victim, who must be protected. Regardless of who it is, whether it is a player you like or not, they must be respected until the investigation is complete. The problem is the handling of the whole situation, which makes someone look guilty when, for the moment, it cannot be proven that they committed an assault, and this is my complaint about everything that has happened, from the moment the alleged insult was made, to the behavior of those affected, the sports press, but even more so, the soccer authorities. I hope that at some point, a study of all the facts will be conducted and concluded in a fair and decisive manner, setting a precedent for how players should behave on the field. I believe that from that basis, many other things can be improved.
