Violent Night - Film Review [ESP|ENG]
Seguramente toda persona en el mundo habrá visto una historia en dónde el protagonista o tema principal sea sobre nada más y nada menos que "Santa Claus"; esa gran imagen navideña, el hombre de barba blanca, vestido de rojo que conduce el trineo lleno de regalos junto a sus renos mientras va riéndose con su característico "Ho - Ho - Ho"; estás historias llenas de esperanza, buenos deseos, amor y en dónde dar y ayudar siempre es lo más importante; estas películas siempre me han parecido todas iguales, aunque siempre hay maneras de relatar diferentes historias como por ejemplo el episodio de la magnífica serie "The Twilight Zone" llamado "The Night of the Meek" la cual mostraba a un diferente Santa, pero todavía siendo una buena historia de Navidad o un short film islandés del 2003 llamado "Rare Exports Inc." con razgos de acción y terror con un Santa vengativo; esas dos producciones, muy diferentes me demostraron la posibilidad de ver justamente historia de navidad que se alejen, así sea un poco, de lo habitual tal como sucede en este film que reseño en esta publicación.
Surely every person in the world has seen a story where the main character or main theme is about nothing more and nothing less than "Santa Claus"; that great Christmas image, the man with the white beard, dressed in red who drives the sleigh full of gifts with his reindeer while laughing with his characteristic "Ho - Ho - Ho"; these stories are full of hope, good wishes, love and where giving and helping is always the most important thing; these movies have always seemed to me all the same, although there are always ways to tell different stories as for example the episode of the magnificent series "The Twilight Zone" called "The Night of the Meek" which showed a different Santa, but still being a good Christmas story or a short Icelandic film from 2003 called "Rare Exports Inc. "with action and horror features with a vengeful Santa; those two very different productions showed me the possibility of seeing a Christmas story that is just a little bit different from the usual as it happens in this film that I am reviewing in this publication.
Recuerdo que varios meses atrás, cuando se dio la noticia sobre la realización del film pensaba que sería una buena idea ver a un Santa tomarse unas horas libres para salvarse él y otros más de un evento muy peligroso; lo otro fue que esperaba que se desarrollará una buena historia, en realidad que se hiciera un buen trabajo en las escenas de acción, pero cuando supe de qué el film ya estaba hecho y que sería estrenado en las fechas navideñas, eso sí que me sorprendió y solo quedaba esperar a su estreno y como regalo de navidad, hace uno o dos días se estrenó en su formato digital otra película más basada en Santa Clause, una película navideña con comedia, acción y con varias muertes. "Violent Night" relata la historia de Santa Clause y su monótono trabajo a final de año; un trabajo el cual no se siente muy motivado de realizar y que cada vez cansa más, molesta más y es que Santa piensa que nadie lo necesita, nadie cree en él hasta que en la Noche de Navidad, una pequeña niña que ha sido muy buena en todo el año lo necesita más que nunca, ya que será ella quien posiblemente reviva no solo el espíritu de navidad en Santa, sino el espíritu de un guerrero que deberá enfrentar a un grupo de mercenarios que pondrán en peligro la vida de esa pequeña niña y de toda su familia y esa será la oportunidad para que Santa pueda desear a todos los que se portan mal una Violenta Nochebuena.
I remember several months ago, when the news about the making of the film came out I thought it would be a good idea to see a Santa taking a few hours off to save himself and others from a very dangerous event; The other thing was that I expected a good story to be developed, in fact that a good job was done in the action scenes, but when I knew that the film was already made and that it would be released during the Christmas season, that really surprised me and I just had to wait for its release and as a Christmas present, one or two days ago another movie based on Santa Clause was released in its digital format, a Christmas movie with comedy, action and with several deaths. "Violent Night" tells the story of Santa Clause and his monotonous job at the end of the year; a job which he does not feel very motivated to perform and that every time he gets more tired, more annoying and Santa thinks that no one needs him, no one believes in him until Christmas Eve, a little girl who has been very good throughout the year needs him more than ever, because it will be her who will possibly revive not only the spirit of Christmas in Santa, but the spirit of a warrior who must face a group of mercenaries who will endanger the life of that little girl and her whole family and that will be the opportunity for Santa to wish all those who misbehave a violent Christmas Eve.
Este no es un film del cual deba destacar el trabajo del director; en mi opinión no existe en ningún momento algo que impresiones, una escena genial, algo sumamente inolvidable; creo que al ser una producción rápida y un presupuesto pequeño, seguramente no hubo ese tiempo de idear algo mejor y siendo sincero, creo que está bien porque le da por momentos ese toque de película clase B y por eso puedo decir que no es impresionante el trabajo del director noruego Tommy Wirkola de quién he visto las geniales oeliculas de "Dead Snow" y wue siendo sincero no tenia conocimiento de que era el director de este film; ahora con lo anteriormente descrito, no digo que su trabajo sea malo, sino que es un director que se apega al presupuesto que tenga, a las pocas escenografías y tratar de sacar lo mejor tanto de los actores como de la historia en sí; en eso creo que cumple con la exigencia de este film y pienso que por eso hace un correcto trabajo.
La historia es simple y para nada original; por ejemplo, este film no esconde su gran influencia de films cómo "Die Hard" en su primera y segunda parte, también es muy evidente las referencias a "Home Alone" y con eso se toma como base para desarrollar a un Santa que está muy alejado a lo que se promociona en todo el año. Siempre he pensado que la originalidad en el mundo del cine es algo cada vez más difícil de conseguir y por eso no trato de criticar la influencia de otras producciones en una nueva, ahora creo que una cosa es ser influenciado y otra es copiar y lamentablemente en esta película se copia mucho y eso no me gustó; ahora lo que si me gustó del guion escrito por Pat Casey y Josh Miller es la creación de algunos personajes como la historia navideña, esto me pareció importante porque al final, este es un film navideño y creo que usa y deja un buen mensaje para esta época en dónde ayudar, dar regalos y hacer sentir especial a otras personas es lo mejor.
This is not a film of which I should highlight the director's work; in my opinion there is not a single moment that impresses, a great scene, something extremely unforgettable; I think that being a fast production and a small budget, surely there wasn't that time to come up with something better and being honest, I think it's ok because it gives it at times that touch of a B movie and that's why I can say that the work of the Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola of whom I have seen the great movies of "Dead Snow" is not impressive and being honest I had no knowledge that he was the director of this film; now with the above described, I am not saying that his work is bad, but he is a director who sticks to the budget he has, to the few scenographies and try to get the best of both the actors and the story itself; in that I think he meets the requirements of this film and I think that's why he does a good job.
The story is simple and not at all original; for example, this film does not hide its great influence of films like "Die Hard" in its first and second part, it is also very evident the references to "Home Alone" and that is taken as a basis to develop a Santa that is far away from what is promoted throughout the year. I have always thought that originality in the world of cinema is something increasingly difficult to achieve and that is why I do not try to criticize the influence of other productions in a new one, now I think that one thing is to be influenced and another is to copy and unfortunately in this film there is a lot of copying and I did not like that; now what I did like about the script written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller is the creation of some characters like the Christmas story, this seemed important to me because at the end, this is a Christmas film and I think it uses and leaves a good message for this season where helping, giving gifts and making other people feel special is the best.
Sobre las actuaciones, me pareció que tanto David Harbour quien interpreta a "Santa" y John Leguizamo quien en el film se hace llamar "Scrooge" son lo mejor del film. Harbour muy famoso por su trabajo en la serie de Netflix "Stranger Things", en esta oportunidad hace de un buen Santa Claus, me gusta como su personaje demuestra una insatisfacción, molestia y hasta depresión por sentir que no es necesitado e importante para muchas personas porque como es el mundo ahora, posiblemente este personaje sea la vía para realizar una crítica a las nuevas generaciones o la sociedad actual que se hunde en lo material y pierde cada vez más el sentimiento o lo bueno de esta festividad; con respecto a "Scrooge", está es la tercera vez que veo a Leguizamo como un villano y debo decir que despeus de "Clown" en el horrible film de "Spawn", el personaje que interpreta en este film me ha gustado mucho; me parece excelente de que odie la navidad porque así lo hace un buen antagonista, que tenga excusas fuertes para mantener esa posición; es un divertido personaje y ojalá hubiera mostrado más maldad o ser más implacable para hacerlo mejor. En mi opinión son lo mejor del film y es a la vez un punto positivo y negativo para el film; positivo por las características antes dichas y negativo porque dejan con muy poco desarrollo e importancia a los demás personajes.
About the performances, I thought that both David Harbour who plays "Santa" and John Leguizamo who in the film calls himself "Scrooge" are the best of the film. Harbour very famous for his work in the Netflix series "Stranger Things", in this opportunity he plays a good Santa Claus, I like how his character shows a dissatisfaction, annoyance and even depression for feeling that he is not needed and important for many people because the way the world is now, possibly this character is the way to make a criticism to the new generations or the current society that sinks in the material and loses more and more the feeling or the good of this holiday; with respect to "Scrooge", this is the third time I see Leguizamo as a villain and I must say that after "Clown" in the horrible "Spawn" film, the character he plays in this film I liked a lot; I think it is excellent that he hates Christmas because it makes him a good antagonist, he has strong excuses to maintain that position; he is a funny character and I wish he had shown more evil or be more relentless to make it better. In my opinion they are the best of the film and it is both a positive and negative point for the film; positive because of the aforementioned characteristics and negative because they leave the other characters with very little development and importance.
Si alguien me dice que Violent Night fue escrita a mediados y finales de los 80' solo me quedaría decir que sí, que esa es la razón por la cual está película es como es y es que la influencia de las películas anteriormente citadas le da ese toque de las muchas que pertenecieron al género de la acción y comedia de esa época; ahora tanto para bien o para mal eso junto a otros factores es lo que no convierte este film en ser perfecto, sino en uno regular y es que está fórmula de convertir una historia sobre un personaje muy conocido y al que le añades frases cómicas y violencia, fue lo que se vio en el film "The Princess" protagonizado por Joey King; la diferencia entre ambas películas es las actuaciones y desarrollo de los villanos en el cual en esta película navideña es mucho mejor y por eso no la considero que sea una mala película porque en realidad no lo es, es entretenida y creo que cumple con algo muy importante y es que es una historia de navidad y justamente por eso recomiendo esta película la cual no hay que tomarse en serio por las muchas cosas que suceden. Espero que en estas fiestas si hacen espacio para pasar el próximo 25 de diciembre viendo películas, sumen Violent Night y disfruten de una historia navideña con acción, violencia y comedia.
If someone tells me that Violent Night was written in the mid to late 80's I would only have to say that yes, that is the reason why this film is the way it is and that the influence of the above mentioned films gives it that touch of the many that belonged to the genre of action and comedy of that era; now for better or for worse, that along with other factors is what makes this film not perfect, but a regular one, and this formula of converting a story about a well known character and adding comic lines and violence, was what was seen in the film "The Princess" starring Joey King; the difference between both movies is the performances and development of the villains in which in this Christmas movie is much better and that is why I do not consider it a bad movie because it really is not, it is entertaining and I think it fulfills something very important and that is that it is a Christmas story and that is precisely why I recommend this movie which should not be taken seriously because of the many things that happen. I hope that this holiday season, if you have room to spend December 25th watching movies, you will add Violent Night and enjoy a Christmas story with action, violence and comedy.

Desde que ví la.noticia de este fimle.tengo ganas. Lo que dices de ella, referencias a películas de los ochenta, serie b,hacen que me.den más ganas de verla. Ya la tengo en mis marcadores, lamentablemente no he podido ver nada por culpa de internet, ando sin conexión estable indefinidamente y se me están acumulando las películas, tengo pendiente la anterior que reseñaste y quería ver cu hillos por la espalda 2 apenas se estrenará pero internet ma ha jodido estos días.
Yo estoy sufriendo por la laptop, así que todo lo tengo que ver por el teléfono; espero arreglar eso está semana para disfrutar la de Glass Onion, pero creo que igual la terminaré de viendo para evitar spoilers.
Está es buena, no esperes mucho, como siempre hay que tener cero expectativas con estas películas y así se disfruta más; está si está en buena calidad.
Espero que resuelvas pronto lo del internet, eso me tuvo mal por casi un año.
Saludos amigo, no conocía de esta película que nos compartes, sin embargo, se nota que cuanta con una gran temática, navidad, disparos, comedia, además me gusto que sea una referencia de los años 80, así que la historia debe ser única y bastante interesante. Espero que la disfrutes cuando la veas, en mi opinión rompe con esa monotonía de películas que cuentan con Santa como personaje principal.
Si quieres para seguir con esa línea de navidad, comedia y acción, despeus de esa o tal vez antes, debes ver Duro de Matar.
Hace unos días que me llama la atención esta película, me gusta el actor David Harbour y me parece genial ver una película navideña un poco diferente, con acción y sangre para variar a las románticas o de comedia que suelo mirar en esta época. Nada más no me decidía, pero me gustó leer tu reseña al respecto. Quizá la vea este finde con la familia.
Espero que le guste, así como digo en la reseña, no es una obra de arte, tiene sus fallos, pero entretiene y eso para mí está bien; en mi opinión fue entretenida y con momentos tontos y a la vez divertidos.
Bueno, ya sabemos que este film es recomendable, solo hay que sentarse, relajarse y disfrutar del filme, eso es lo que pasa en muchas películas navideñas, si bien no posee algo muy original, si tiene un estilo ochentero, creo que por allí puede atraer a muchos espectadores.
