This is my first time on WorkLife and I've come to tell you about my experience last friday and the one I'll have in... 5 hours? Oh, I think I need to hurry up a bit writing to lay my head on the pillow for at least three hours. 😱

Luckily, it's Sunday and although I have to work first thing in the morning, I might have a little time to rest afterwards, as my mother has come to spoil me and also for me to give her some lessons about Hive. 😊

Well, in any case, I'll see what the day brings. But now I want to tell you that I was at a press conference where everything related to the Havana Marathon Race was reported, which around this time is always held in salute to the anniversary of the Founding of the City. This November 16 was its 504th anniversary. Almost nothing, right?

Esta es mi primera vez en WorkLife y he venido para contarles de mi experiencia el viernes pasado y la que tendré dentro de… ¿5 horas? Oh, creo que debo apurarme un poco escribiendo para recostar mi cabeza en la almohada al menos tres horas. 😱

Por suerte, es domingo y aunque tengo que trabajar a primera hora, quizás tenga un poco de tiempo para descansar después, ya que mi madre ha venido a consentirme y también para que yo le dé unas clases acerca de Hive. 😊

Bueno, en cualquier caso, ya veré lo que trae el día. Pero ahora quiero contarte que estuve en una conferencia de prensa en la que se informó todo lo relacionado con la Carrera de Maratón de la Habana, que por estas fechas siempre se realiza en saludo al aniversario de la Fundación de la Ciudad. Este 16 de noviembre cumplió 504 años. Casi nada, ¿verdad?

For me, this event is always a great opportunity as a photojournalist, and besides, I really enjoy seeing all these walkers who gather in the capital of all Cubans to show their commitment, self-esteem, will to live and happiness. It is a great party. And all those who participate here do it for many reasons and all of them are very nice. From testing themselves, sharing with friends, promoting reunions, strengthening bonds of friendship through sport and even competing seriously to be victorious, because they take time to prepare and these tests require physical preparation, as well as a good mental attitude.

Here the participants will compete in three marathons (42 Km and 195 meters, 21 Km and 95 meters and 10 Km) and everyone chooses according to their training, possibilities and aspirations.

When the starting bell rings at first light, 3100 people will be running in Havana. The streets will be closed, but as the great party that it is, the people will come out to greet them and encourage them. I'm doing it myself. While I work documenting the event, they run by my side and I say nice things to them and accompany them with much affection as well.

Of that number of athletes, 2573 are Cubans... but the remaining 527 come from other parts of the world. And this time the country with the largest representation is Mexico, with 70 runners.

This year's race has also been dedicated to this sister country. This is a beautiful detail.

Para mí siempre es una gran oportunidad este evento como fotorreportera que soy, y además, disfruto mucho ver a todos estos andarines que se dan cita en la Capital de todos los cubanos para mostrar compromiso, amor propio, ganas de vivir y felicidad. Es una gran fiesta. Y todos los que participan aquí, lo hacen por muchas razones y todas muy bonitas. Desde probarse a sí mismos, compartir con amigos, propiciar reencuentros, estrechar lazos de amistad por medio del deporte y hasta competir en serio por quedar victoriosos, pues llevan tiempo de preparación y estas pruebas requieren de preparación física, como también de una buena actitud mental.

Aquí se competirá en tres maratones (42 Km y 195 metros, 21 Km y 95 metros y 10 Km) y cada cual elige según su entrenamiento, posibilidades y aspiraciones.

Cuando suene el campanazo de arrancada con las primeras luces del día estarán corriendo en La Habana, 3100 personas. Las calles que se destinan para ello cerradas, pero como la gran fiesta que es, el pueblo saldrá a saludarlos y a darles ánimo. Yo misma lo hago. Mientras trabajo documentando el evento, ellos corren a mi lado y yo les digo cosas bonitas y los acompaño con mucho cariño también.

De esa cantidad de atletas, 2573 son cubanos… pero los 527 restantes vienen de otras partes del mundo. Y en esta ocasión el país con mayor representación es México, con 70 corredores. También se le ha dedicado a este país hermano la carrera de este año. Esto es un detalle hermoso.

Bueno, prometo hacer una publicación detallada sobre la carrera. Estas son ideas generales.

My job allows me to go to many places and enjoy them too. This time, while we were waiting for the Press Conference to start, my partner and I went around the Hotel and between jokes and serious conversations, we had a great time and I took the opportunity to take a few pictures, so you can see through my eyes how a journalist lives her work experience.

Mi trabajo me permite ir a muchos lugares y disfrutarlos también. Esta vez, mientras estábamos esperando que iniciara la Conferencia de Prensa, mi compañero y yo nos dedicamos a recorrer el Hotel y entre bromas y conversaciones serias, pues lo pasamos genial y aproveché para hacer unas cuantas fotos, para que veas a través de mis ojos cómo una periodista vive su experiencia de trabajo.

I think my companion is very interested in these instruments because he gave me a little lesson about them. And he also decided to solve my desire to know their brand.

Creo que mi compañero está muy interesado en estos instrumentos porque me dio una pequeña lección sobre ellos. Y también decidió resolver mi deseo de conocer su marca.

We saw some window displays and talked about the drinks we like. Sometimes we have gone out together to jobs in other provinces and in the evenings, after relaxing from our responsibilities, we have shared drinks. We never got drunk, for the record. And if it happened, I don't remember, and if I don't remember, it didn't happen, hahaha.

Vimos unas vidrieras y estuvimos conversando sobre las bebidas que nos gustan. A veces hemos salido juntos a trabajos en otras provincias y en las noches, tras relajarnos de nuestras responsabilidades, hemos compartido tragos. Nunca nos emborrachamos, que conste. Y si pasó, no me acuerdo, y si no me acuerdo, no pasó, jajaja.

It was almost time. We went up to the second floor and made our way to the hall where the press was gathered.

Casi era la hora. Subimos a la segunda planta y nos dirigimos al salón donde estaba la prensa reunida.

We rewound... before entering the hall, a sponsor's promotion looked at us with challenging eyes. More drinks. This is a beer, but there were also other energy drinks that will be offered to runners during the races.

Rebobinamos... antes de entrar al salón, la promoción de un patrocinador nos miró con ojos desafiantes. Más bebida. Se trata de una cerveza, pero también había otras bebidas energéticas que se ofrecerán a los corredores durante las pruebas.

Well, it sounds boring but it's not. We can always continue exploring on the top floor of the Hotel, inaugurated on March 19, 1958 and whose name at the time was Habana Hilton.

Bueno, parece aburrido pero no lo es. Siempre podemos seguir explorando en la planta alta del Hotel, inaugurado el 19 de marzo de 1958 y cuyo nombre entonces era Habana Hilton.

At the time it was considered the tallest building in Latin America. And from its maximum height you can see the whole city.

En su momento fue considerada la edificación más alta de América Latina. Y desde su altura máxima se puede divisar toda la Ciudad.

In these photos we can appreciate its inauguration and the construction process. There is also an image of the celebration of the Capablanca In Memorian Tournament, an event that has been held there many times. In this particular photo, the Hotel management highlights the participation of political and historical personalities, such as Ernesto Ché Guevara.

En estas fotos podemos apreciar su inauguración y el proceso de construcción. También hay una imagen de la celebración del Torneo Capablanca In Memorian, evento que muchas veces se ha celebrado allí. En esta foto en particular, la dirección del Hotel resalta la participación de personalidades políticas e históricas, como Ernesto Ché Guevara.

Finally the Press Conference was held and at the end we were invited to toast... Guess what?

Por fin se efectuó la rueda de prensa y al finalizar nos invitaron a brindar, adivina con qué.

But I chose a tea and a small drunken panettone. 😁 I gave the beer to the driver who was already waiting outside to take us home.

Pero yo elegí un té y una pequeña panetela borracha. 😁 Le llevé la cerveza al chofer que ya nos esperaba afuera para regresarnos a casa.

It was already dark and we said goodbye to the Hotel, but not to the work, because now we had to send our report with photos to the magazine.

Ya era de noche y nos despedimos del Hotel, pero no del trabajo, pues ahora quedaba la parte de enviar a la revista nuestro reporte con fotos.

I've already exceeded my time... I have two hours left to sleep. Wish me luck, in two hours the driver will be at my door to take me to work.

Ya me excedí con el tiempo... me quedan dos horas para dormir. Deséame suerte, que dentro de dos horas el chofer estará en la puerta de mi casa para llevarme a trabajar.
