The older generation in this city has a sentence they always pull out in times of national crisis:
“Relax… nothing ever happens in Sirjan.”

Through war, famine, revolution, protests, whatever — this place usually stays calm.
I don’t really know why. I’m sure there are deep, complicated reasons,
but maybe it’s because we’re far from the borders and far from the capital,
and the city’s always had money — pistachios before, and lately, stone mines.

These days, while clashes between police and protesters are flaring up across the country
and shopkeepers are going on strike,
in Sirjan there’s… nothing.
Just daily price hikes, and the internet getting weaker and weaker.

And now the government has announced a shutdown because of “cold weather”
and “energy management,” which is funny,
because honestly… it’s not cold here at all.

نسل قبلی ما توی این شهر یه جمله‌ای دارن که در شرایط بحرانی کشور همیشه میگن که "خیال‌تون راحت... سیرجون هیچ خبری نمیشه"

طی سال‌های جنگ و قحطی و انقلاب و اعتراض و... معمولاً اینجا آرومه. نمی‌دونم دقیقاً چرا، حتماً دلایل گسترده و پیچیده‌ای داره ولی شاید به خاطر اینه که اینجا از مرز و پایتخت دوره و رونق اقتصادی داشته همیشه به واسطه‌ی پسته و این اواخر به واسطه‌ی معدن سنگ.

این روزا که باز در کل کشور درگیری بین نیروهای پلیس و معترضین بالا گرفته و بازاری‌ها دست به اعتصاب زدن، توی سیرجون اما خبری نیست، فقط همه‌چی روزانه درحال افزایش قیمته و اینترنت هم کم زور شده. حکومت هم تعطیلی اعلام کرده به علت برودت هوا و مدیریت انرژی که خب... اصلاً اینجا هوا سرد نیست!
